Heat 1/4 cup oil in a large skillet. Brown patties, being careful not to crowd them in the pan. Cook about 5 minutes per side and set aside. Continue until all patties are cooked.
After all the steaks are nicely browned, remove them from the pan and stir in the flour. Continue stirring until browned and all the bits are off the bottom of the pan. Add beef broth, salt and pepper. When gravy thickens, return patties to pan and reduce heat to medium-low. Cook for about 30 minutes, uncovered. Serve over mashed potatoes or rice.
