White kicks off to Red from the 40 yard line. The kick sails toward the sideline. Red 22 attempts to catch the ball with one foot on the sideline at the eight yard line. The ball, having not yet touched the ground glances off of Red 22's hand and lands 5 feet out of bounds. What options, if any, are available?

Since Red 22's foot was on the sideline when he touched the ball, Red has two options:

A) accept a five yard penalty on White and have them kick again,

OR

B) forego the penalty and take possession of the ball at the Red 40, or whatever yard line it is in high school.

You guys are exactly right. I guess that one was too easy. If Red 22 had possessed the ball while completely inbounds and then stepped out, it would have been marked at the 8.
As Javier Arenas found out last year!

Actually, in HS ball, Red only has to touch the kick while inbounds to take the onus off of White.
