What's the difference between a preferred walk-on and a regular walk-on?

I was wondering the same thing. I will have to google it. I know that Bama has advertised "walk-on" tryouts once or twice a year and they have a meeting for enrolled students who want to be a walk on player. . A preferred walk on is something that a player has to be offered by Coach Saban I think. Maybe they are more likely to eventually get a scholarship if a spot opens up and they earn it? Not sure.
