I remember hearing of Pat's death--and crying. I had a Southern history class with him. I made a B and he made an A.

Pat was an ornery guy (in a good way ). We could use some of his attitude on the team today. To paraphrase a story I read a long time ago, Pat quick kicked the ball, unexpectedly for Coach Bryant. When he came off, Coach Bryant asked him what he was doing. Pat said something to the effect , " Well, they ( speaking of his team mates ) sure as hell ain`t playing offense, let`s see if they can play defense." No wonder Coach Bryant loved him like another son.
