I think a 53% chance with 3 losses appears accurate. In the playoff era a team with 3 losses has been ranked among the Top 12 around 60% of the time on Selection Sunday so with our schedule I'm sure we'd be the 3 loss team selected if any were. I"m still thinking that's how it will play out with us having 3 losses and just sneaking into the playoff.

Don't ever let anybody fool you with "the Playoffs makes the regular season meaningless" talk after this past weekend, for sure. Everybody is playing to avoid the Loser's Bracket or ,worse, nothing at all at the end of the regular season. The Al Davis mantra might need to be posted all over the place "JUST WIN BABY" 😁

Certainly the games just played hurt Notre Dame's and Michigan's chances but any team now with a decent record late in the season can get away with losing their regular season finale, win their conference championship and still get a bye in the playoff. So hypothetically Georgia could afford to lose to Georgia Tech and Ohio State could afford to lose to Michigan without any serious consequences if that's their only blemish.

Maybe. I just wish the people making the decisions would stop this charade that winning the Big12 or ACC means anything. I agree that if we MUST have autobids, then conference champions deserve a spot in the playoffs. To guarantee the top 4 seeds to conference champions is the dumbest thing I've ever heard.
IMO, it has nothing to do with what is fair or right but is designed to keep fans ancross the nation interested in the playoffs. With the autobid teams being ensured a bye, fans across the nation are guaranteed two weeks of interest in the proceedings, with the added advantage, iirc, that the autobid teams’ first game will be played at home.

A guess is that seedings will be manipulated such that only 2 SEC teams can make it to the semifinals, then they will probably have to play each other, guaranteeing that only one SEC team can make the final.

After only 1/6 of the season and before SEC play so this will change but its fun to look at. This would be the seeding based on FPI rankings chance of making the playoffs:

6 out of 12 teams ain't bad ;)
All SEC home games:
#12 Boise State @ #5 Georgia - Winner plays #4 Miami
#11 Missouri @ #6 Alabama - Winner plays #3 UCF
#10 USC @ #7 Tennessee - Winner plays #2 Ohio State
#9 Penn State @ #8 Ole Miss - Winner plays #1 Texas

A pulse may be all we see. Our O line has been atrocious, and Josh Huepel would like nothing more than to give us some payback for his dismissal as O coordinator.
I think Oklahoma is a least a good bit better than NC State, so we'll see. This game will give us a better picture of what both Oklahoma and Tennessee are. I'm still skeptical about the Vols. They'll no doubt be good, but are they as good as some in the media are making them out to be? I don't think so, but we'll see
