1992 ring on eBay/ Real story on the eBay ring (Merged)

May be the same one from last year. Was from a pilot or someone outside the team or athletic office. Rings are given to each person that supports the team through travel and administrative things also.

it does make you wonder....if it was me, it'd have to be some dire need to sell that thing....
but, if you're initials are W.B., or you know someone whose are, it'd make a great gift!

This makes me sick to even think about selling your NC ring...I really really hope he needed the money...
Man you guys are rough, maybe he needed the money to help pay for a surgery or some medical expense. I'm sure he didn't want to sell it unless he had to . . .
What's bad is........
the person selling the ring on Ebay is just a jeweler......they have over 200 items for sale. So, for one, he could care less about the significance that a ring like that means to a true fan or especially a player. There are athletes out there that would give their right.......ummmm, EYE for a championship ring.
And, for two, the guy that actually sold the ring in the first place probably only got around half of what it sold for on Ebay. So, let's hope that the guy REALLY needed the money!!!
Actually, it was probably stolen by a Barner so they could see what a REAL NC ring looks like.......since they will NEVER get a legit one!!!! :biggrin:

The guy that played center for the Steelers in the 70's hocked his Super Bowl rings to support his drug addiction. Sad.

Bottom line - it's pretty sad that he had to part with the ring regardless of what he needs the money for - hard times or what not.

In case anybody wants to know. Yesterday, I forwarded the link to the Ebay ring to several people saying, "Can you believe that someone would sell this?". Of course, I got the typical response back from most people......HELL NO!!!!! :mad2: but one guy actually called me back and said that he knows Barger. So, to make an already long story a little shorter, he bounced the message around to his buddys wondering if he was in financial trouble or what was going on with him. They found out that Barger lost the ring three years ago at the A-Day game at the Sheraton Capstone. He reported it missing and filed a police report, but it never turned up until now. Once someone told him that the ring was on Ebay, Barger called Astor (company selling the ring) and told them what happened, but of course, they're just business folks.........all about the dollar(I guess, anybody could call in like that and claim stuff though). So, Astor let the auction go and we all know that it sold. As of yesterday, Barger was going to T-town to take a voluntary polygraph to give the investigator more proof that the ring was not pawned or sold by him. They are backtracking through the trail of owners to try and find the original "finder/stealer/thief/scum bag/etc." and hopefully prosecute the guy and make him pay back the original $$$$.
Anyway, Barger didn't pawn or sell the ring and now that it's located he WILL get it back!!!!!!
Maybe he needs to get it sized down a notch or two :biggrin2:
I'll let y'all know if I hear anything else......if you're interested.
