Like most fans, I always enjoys looking forward to what team we will possibly field for the next year. Obviously a ton can change from year to the next with guys signing mlb contracts., etc, but nevertheless it is fun to speculate. I don't know a whole heck of a lot about recruiting but I will give it my best shot:

best case:

CF- Dugas (.01% chance this happens, hence the "best case" heading)
2B- Kenny Roberts
SS- Jared Reaves
1B- Austen Smith
LF- Jon Kelton
RF- Andrew Miller
DH- Cary baxter/Case Nixon/Rosecrans (no clue)
C- Ladson Montgomery
3B- Brett Booth

SP- Adam Morgan (highly unlikely, I know)...would Shaw or Baxter take this spot?
SP- Taylor Wolfe
SP- Tucker Hawley
RP- Ian Gardeck (???...seems like a kid who will go with the $)

Worst case would be a situation in which Reaves was a one and done to go along with the departures of Dugas and Morgan. I have no clue how likely this is, but with the year he is having, I would think it's definitely a possibility.

Thoughts?

P.S. Sorry if you thought this thread was about the end of mankind.

I think that Reaves will go. Unless he is a very low draft pick he will probably go, as do just about any junior that has the chance.

We have nine games and hopefully more left this year. On paper we should be every bit as good as this year's team at least, and hopefully much better. We will see how we come through the draft.

I think your % for Dugas is high.... :)

I disagree. Dugas and Reaves will probably be back. Reaves will play 2B next year, Kenny Roberts is a more natural short stop. Morgan is gone, 0% chance a 4 pitch lefty at 90-92 stays for his senior year. If Gardeck comes to school (I think its 50/50 at this point) he may be your friday night starter. I doubt Shaw will be back to 100% until the very end of next season. I think there's a chance Cary Baxter will be an every day corner outfielder and work out of the bullpen as well.

The length of Tucker Hawleys little "shut down" period has now crossed in to scary territory. I'm starting to fear he is actually injured and not just "sore". The thought of Taylor Wolfe as a regular weekend starter in the SEC makes me want to be sick to my stomach, even though he left with the lead on Sunday.

Honestly in my opinion, there's a pretty decent chance that all of our guys come back, Morgan included. Although, Morgan is probably the least probable one to come back.

Wolfe has done a pretty solid job coming out of the pen and also as a "spot starter," so I can't say I'd cringe too much if he earns a starting spot next year, but I'd like to see him keep coming out of the pen cause he's done well there this year.

Aaron Suttles of Tidesports says in his opinion Hawley's getting shut down for the year, or he may see some light work out of the pen.

I don't see a way Gardeck makes it here. Top JUCO pitcher in the country, if he hits mid-90s like has been reported, some team will snatch him. Baxter and a healthy Nixon should factor into the pitching discussions next year, along with newcomers Guilbeau, Hubbard, Keller, and Turnbull (those who make it through the draft). We'll lose Kilcrease, and if Morgan goes, we'll have to replace two weekend starters, so we may have to rely heavily on some young pitchers next year.

Don't forget a high number of walk-ons from Tuscaloosa County (by way of high school or JUCO-Shelton or Bevill-Fayette) who will find their ways into the starting lineup or main pitching rotation. Most probably aren't on the roster yet.

I sure hope so, otherwise what would it give you to complain about. ;)

I must admit, I did lol on this.

I didn't at first, but then I "calmed" down and read it in a non-confrontational mindset.

My point exactly coming from Zona, I knew what was coming, he sticks to his opinions and is not afraid to voice them either. Either way, he is entitled to them as long as they stay in line with board rules.

sorry guys, that last thought I posted was sitting there on a tee. You know there's gonna be some locals or walk-ons who factor into the mix. Some turn into Brock Bennett. Some hit .158 but have to play out of necessity. I just hope we add a few more bats besides Kenny Roberts (and maybe we did during the fall period).

McGavin with 5 hits this weekend, he could really help us down the stretch. He struggled a ton early in the season adjusting to the pitching at this level but may have turned the corner as he only k'd twice in 10 at bats this weekend. We will see if he can keep it up, but if he can continue to complement our four studs at the top we may actually be ok offensively. Also had 0 errors which was great to see considering he has had seen so little playing time up to this point.

It will be interesting to see how we balance him and Smith over the next few years. I know Austen played some outfield earlier in the year so perhaps that is a plan for the future.

I'm thinking McGavin and Smith become our big HR hitters over the next two years. They will find their way into the lineup together, either as 1B and DH or with Smith in the outfield

This years team will be the absolute worst for years to come. And it somehow has a chance to win the west this year. Really looking forward to the next couple years of tide baseball, we will get back to hosting regionals.

Of course I hope you are right, bamzoo, but we lose all three guys who started against LSU this weekend and that's tough. We do have some good arms coming back, actually a lot of good arms compared to some years, but until you see them do it, and with Hawley having arm problems, I just wouldn't be so sure as of yet about future success.

Then again, I have been accused of worrying unnecessarily.
