*** 2013 Fall Camp Thread ***

... Lastly the part about Sims slinging up 'Hope' throws is not very encouraging. We really needs Del Rio or Morris to 'Get It' pretty quick and take over the #2 spot.

... or maybe for Sims to just 'Get It' - might be a quicker solution :)

Any questions about Blake should simply look towards Nuss's experience with Jake Lockler at Washington. The 2014 offense may have a little more option than many like, but Nuss can call a game with a guy like Blake at QB.

I know one coach who won 1 NC that rambles at PC. ;)

CPB was accused of rambling when he was sending messages. However, CNS sends messages like darts. How many think Sims will be throwing up "hope" passes again? You have to pay attention to exactly what the man is saying...

In my experience, Saban is a pretty straight shooter in press conferences. Maybe even a bit more of one than I would like (though who am I to question his handling of press conferences?).

Point being, if he says the OL isn't performing up to standard, and the second string QB is turnover prone, and AJ -- so thoroughly Sabanized that I think he's actually sending his own messages to the team -- is saying he needs help in the leadership department, I think all of those things are legitimate issues that could devolve into real problems if not addressed right now.

We'll know in four weeks.

Or maybe Bama could just start running the 'Wishbone' again. Seems to me that with Bama's stable of running backs and Sims talent at running the ball, it would fit him better (tongue-in-cheek).

Actually, Kirby Smart did say recently that the offense he most hated to defend was the wishbone.:)

@Andrew_Gribble

CB Geno Smith was on the practice field but wasn't working with first- or second-team units. More coming in practice report.

@AlexS_ESPN

Also, Alabama welcomed back WR Amari Cooper (injury) and ILB Trey DePriest (suspension) to full availability during practice.

@COKirkpatrick

NG Brandon Ivory at practice after twisted knee from Saturday scrimmage.

Another interesting note on Geno Smith: He worked with the safeties rather than at inside corner today.

Scott Hunter on WNSP in Mobile just said a trusted observer of last scrimmage said OLine looked like they had a long way to go before they started working well together as a unit. Who knows why they flipped Arie and Austin back to their original positions, but it certainly doesn't sound optimal for chemistry.

CNS presser tweets from reporters:

Saban: Good to get back to work today. Players had better energy from a couple of days off.
Saban: Haven't started preparation for any opponent.
Saban: Today and tomorrow will still be camp/future opponents. No VaTech prep yet.
Saban: Classes start tomorrow. Important for guys to invest in the right thing.
Saban: Later in the week shift focus to first game.
Saban: One-game suspension for Geno Smith.
Saban: Geno Smith (DUI) is suspended for the first game and has some "in-house" things to do to get back. Says he's had no previous issues.
Saban: Something everybody can learn from. One bad choice can have negative effect. Geno good person in program, made poor decision.
Saban: Identity is a work in progress.
Saban: Reuben Foster made a lot of progress so far from first scrimmage to second scrimmage. Increasing reps to get his learning curve up.
Saban: "Trey (Depriest) did everything we asked him to." Says he now has to work his way up the depth chart.
Saban: Jarrick Williams has had fantastic camp so far. Excited about him.

So just a one game suspension. I wonder if it really is over his friend from Georgia. I don't condone the behavior still. Sometimes you just don't know how to cope. Surprised he didn't address the Oline.

Awesome news on Jarrick. He seems like a great kid and it sounds like he's making the most of his opportunity. Would really like to see him shine this year!
