Nothing noteworthy about the QBs from the press conference. Still a 3 man competition. CNS did say that we'll probably play more true freshman this year than any other year.

Saban laying down hints that freshmen are going to contribute all over the place this year...even said something that if it happens at QB then "we" are going to have to make sure we don't ask him to do too much and put him position for success.

I hate to be the Tea Leave Reader and Chief Moderator on here, but I think Hurts had the best day but he also made a few tactical errors that they need to clean up. He seems to be getting in the mental mindset of explaining for how they will manage the situation.

Yep. Sounds like Hurts made the most plays today. Sounds like Barnett stayed the same or slightly regressed and sounds like Bateman stayed the same. Saban made a point that he doesn't look at a players age or seniority when deciding who will play QB. Said it's about how fast they grasp the system..

I think we as a fan need to start preparing for up and down season for Hurts.. if it comes to him.

I agree. It's just that I know this board will whine every time Hurts make a bad decision, and I'm just saying we need to be patient for him as a fan.

From what I can see unless someone steps up we will see ups and downs no matter who starts at QB. It's clear Saban is looking for someone- anyone - at that position to step up and play consistently. If that's the freshman, that's who will start.

Remember, your offense is playing against your defense in these scrimmages. Also, remember that your defense is very experienced and is probably already in mid-season form while your offense is rebuilding and no where near mid-season form. Offensive performance is going to look/sound worse than it really is.

You won't face a really good defense until you get into the middle of your schedule. Plenty of time for your offense and QB to get it together.
