2018 NFL Draft Thread

I kinda think Guice has a personality disorder or something. He actually seems like a really good guy just a little weird or something. Hes also had a pretty rough life. Hopefully it won't be an issue in the NFL because he could be a very good RB with his vision, speed and physicality

Guice always said Alabama "cheated" against LSU. Alabama never allowed him to run all over them.
Yah, he said we played scared because we stacked the box.

Sorry we didn't make it easier on your team to win Derrius. Sorry you had to go your entire collegiate career never knowing what it feels like to beat the Tide.

That aside, he's a talented runner and could be a very good player for Washington.

[h=1]Browns personnel exec had Darnold rated No. 1; explains change to Mayfield[/h]

“Here’s the honest to God’s truth,” he said. “From the start of his college football season to the end of the season, I had Darnold No. 1 and Baker No. 2, (Josh) Rosen No. 3, (Lamar) Jackson No. 4 and (Josh) Allen after that.

“On our way through everything, you couldn’t tell me Darnold wasn’t the best. I did all my evaluations of the season.

“Then comes the part where you meet them off the field. You watch their workouts. You watch everything. And Baker blew me away. Highly, highly intelligent. Highly competitive.

“And he had a trait that some of the good ones have. I call it efficacy. That includes the power to effect other people. I thought that of all the quarterbacks I watched, he stood out far and above the other guys. When he walked into a room, you knew he was there.”

Highsmith did lots of traveling to prepare for the draft.

“I was at an airport,” he said. “UCLA’s volleyball team was in front of me. You heard so much about Rosen. He’s this or that. We all know how people talk.

“So I asked one of the volleyball coaches, ‘What’s Rosen like?’ He said, ‘Aaaaa, you should probably ask his girlfriend. She’s one of the players. She’s over there.’

“I’m like, ‘All right coach. That’s good enough.’”

“I don’t know what all this means, but there was something about him that bothered me.”

After posting that and reading it again - I wonder how that team of 55 would fare in the NFL. Guess it would need another tight end & a backup QB but still an impressive team.

All I ever heard out of him was "wahhhhh wahhhhh wahhhh y'all cheated wahhhhh wahhhh wahhhhh" like the corndogs didn't try to do the same to us in that game. That is what separates the men from the boys.

Wow. I know why most didn't like Rosen and his attitude, but the above quote shows you why NFL execs are often wrong on high draft picks. That is pretty ignorant, you don't want to take a guy because of an answer you got from a women's volleyball coach??? That's pretty dumb if you ask me. It's like asking a golf coach if a pitcher looks good and putting your job at stake to pass on the guy.

Dallas is the PERFECT spot for Bo too. Great OL and backing up Zeke. Dallas knows how to use RB's as good as anyone. I suspect we'll see Bo do well in Big D.

I agree. I think him and Elliott will be the best 1-2 punch in the NFL. If Bo can stay healthy he will make some noise. He just has a nose for playing RB it's just been his injuries that has held him back. He could be one of the best steals of the draft.

I found that story to be odd, too. What was he expecting the volleyball coach to say? If Rosen's girlfriend is a volleyball player, why would the coach talk bad about him? Seemed to me the coach was trying to stay out of it as much as possible.

I think, reading between the lines, that he overhead the volleyball team talking about Rosen, that whatever he heard - if true - would raise serious questions about his character, and that hearing that Rosen's girlfriend was in the group gave legitimacy to what the girls were saying about Rosen.

I'm really surprised that Tony Brown went undrafted because he really fits the mold of a late round depth DB. He's been a great special teams player his entire time at UA and basically spent his entire tenure playing nickel or dime DB on defense. When you draft DBs in the late rounds that is exactly what you're drafting: special teams "starter" and your 5th or 6th DB.

That used to be the case, but NFL defenses have shifted, much like 'Bama has to where the nickel has become the 'base' defense. It is the package teams line up in a majority of the time to where your nickel DB probably plays a LOT more than your 3rd LB in a 4-3 or your 4th LB in the 3-4 because the nickel guy will also play in Dime so he's probably getting 70-75% of the snaps, where those other LBs are likely getting significantly less snaps -

and
"Reid also noted that because of the way teams are passing out of three- and four-wide sets, the Chiefs used nickel or dime personnel — which often calls for four down linemen, just like a 4-3 scheme — 73 percent of the time"

"In 2017, the Redskins played in their base odd-front less than 30 percent of the time. This is about the same as we saw in 2016, despite having a new defensive coordinator in Greg Manusky. The 4-2-5 defense (or Nickel look), is the Redskins new base defense"

Baker Mayfield's agent says they received word there was a potential trade if he was still available at #2. The Patriots wanted him.

That was how I interpreted it as well.

Or maybe his GF had just suffered a black eye from a ball that was spiked over the net. He takes one look at her and makes an assumption about Rosen. Considering the track record of the Brown's executive team this would not surprise me.

Could be, but that raises a couple of questions in my mind. Why would the volleyball team be slamming his character in front of his girlfriend? If they are indeed trashing his character, perhaps driven by the girlfriend's experiences dating him, why would he still feel the need to approach the coach?

Aside from that, you're telling me that this Browns exec just happened to be in the same airport as the UCLA team, and he just happened to overhear some girls gossiping about a player he's considering drafting? That seems a bit far fetched. Far more likely he heard that the team was in the airport, he approached the coach to do some recon, and he decided not to harass the players girlfriend. More than likely it was because the coach wasn't raving (about a player he likely didn't know nonetheless) that they decided to take it as an omen.

Granted this is the team that drafted Manziel because a homeless person told the owner to, so it sounds like a Browns move.

Yup. A lot of NFL teams are taking the Bama approach for tandem backs with totally different skill sets and styles of running. A shifty back and a bruiser. Get tired of one and hit them with the other. Also difficult when using pace to get the right defensive players on the field.

Exactly. Everything about that whole story wreaks of garbage.
