2019 Spring Practice Thread

There are few things I'll be looking for on Saturday from our players:

1. Who is ready to step up as a back up QB? Can Tauila beat Mac for the job?
2. What is our depth behind our star receivers? We need Shavers to step up because we'll need him in red zone situations.
3. We've been hearing a lot about Secondary doing well, let's see how they do in scrimmage.
4. Has Tua learned his lessons such as checking down to RB or TE?
5. Who will step up at TE Spot?
6. Can Najee/Brian Rotation work? Will we use 2 backs... 3 backs rotation?

I think #6 is the least of our worries. Harris/Robinson will be a very physical running game and then add Sanders and Robinson coming in and we will see at least a 3 man rotation if both pick up on the offense and protection packages.

Would not at all be surprised if looking to the flats is not a major area of emphasis right now.

It sounds like Chadarius Townsend may be in the mix at RB.

I believe he is there for the spring only to provide depth until the two freshmen report this summer. He will probably be back at WR this fall.

Maybe. But when recruited I heard he was told his goal was to be used in a Kenyan Drake type role. Dunno what his weight is now but when I last saw him in street clothes he's fitting the physical bill.

Just reading some of the early observations on spring practice, it seems like we will have tremendous talent across the board. It will just be a matter of chemistry and desire as to how well this team preforms.

I hope we play very aggressive on defense.

It may sound repetitive but this could be our best team ever.

Stay Healthy Stay Hungry.

I think he would have been at RB when he showed up if they planned on him playing RB. He may be a great RB and stay there but he is going to need to be great to get PT with our RB talent and depth. I think I saw where he is up over 190 lbs.

I was at practice yesterday. There was definitely good energy even though Coach Saban always finds something to complain about LOL. He was in a good mood when I saw him after practice though. I met some of the new coaches. Very likable group but that matters squat to what I want to see on the field. Lots of talent on the field. I spent a lot of time watching the receivers just because they're so dang entertaining and TALENTED. Wow, we're blessed at that position.

I saw and spoke to Terrell, very nice young man. Good thing it's March.

My son is 6' and a solid 190#. Townsend is the same height and I'd say 200+. He's done well from what I saw.

If he is doing well at RB, then Saban may just leave him there for this year. I wouldn't be shocked to see Townsend to get some playing time at RB and WR this fall.

Maybe, but Sanders expects to see the field. Saban or no Saban, process or no process, he expects to play.

Well, He won't play much first year. I don't think Najee played much his first year. They have to learn to block and etc.. it takes a while for them to figure it out. I expect Sander to play... but not as much as we think.

BIG can correct me if I'm wrong but I took what he was saying as more of a point about how motivated Sanders is. Kid said he would win the Heisman. Not a definitive stance on his playing time.

Agreed - Derrick Henry only got 35 carries as a freshman, and it wasn't because he couldn't carry the ball..
