You must be really old. He had a pretty unforgettable gimmick in the 90's, wearing the giant fake Groucho glasses and nose.I honestly didn’t know he was ever alive.
His book Carrying the Fire is fantastic.Apollo 11 astronaut Michael Collins dead at 90.
His was one of the most fascinating interviews on "In the Shadow of the Moon" to me. Godspeed, and may he rest in peace.
Didn't know he was a Mouseketeer. Thanks for that tidbit GTThanks for posting, seebell, I guess he is reunited with Chuck Connors and his Mousketeer alumni.
I went to several Indy races during the 80's my first in 1981 which was ultimately won by Bobby Unser driving for Roger Penske. I had watched the Indy race many years on TV and it was amazing to be there with great seats on the first turn. My lasting memory following the parade lap, pace lap and green flag start was Unser flashing in view sliding up against the 4th turn wall down the straight and through the 1st and 2nd turn at over 200 mph. This could be his last year in the Penske car but he had an awesome day that day with a somewhat controversial ending. RIP Bobby Unser. I believe he was a genuinely nice guy.Bobby Unser has passed at 87. Won the Indy 500 three times.
The Penske Norton Car in the lower left won the 1981 Indy 500 with the photo of Bobby after the race in the lower right. The attendance that day was in the range of 400,000. It is a gigantic facility and is an awesome sight to see the grandstands and infield totally packed as far as the eye can see..
Reading it (listening to it, really) now. It's an absolutely fascinating, detailed account of the program. He's describing the jobs assigned to the astronauts now. I like how it's detailed without being at all boring for a layman like me. I also like how he was able to poke some fun at himself. Would have loved to sit down over a beer with him.His book Carrying the Fire is fantastic.
Yes sadly not a shock. My guess is drug overdose or heart attack from doing lots of drugs for 40 yearsTawny Kittaen at 59 (sadly not a total shock).
