Actor/singer Ed Ames dead at 95. One of the funniest segments on Johnny Carson was with Ed Ames and his knife throwing.

Ames was throwing a hatchet, which his character, Mingo on Daniel Boone, used as a weapon. Of course, where the hatchet stuck in the target is what made it so funny.

Pat Robertson dies at 93. The preacher helped build a powerful political coalition of religious conservatives.
Robertson, who was among the first evangelists to take religion out of the realm of private belief and into the secular arena of politics, helped the Christian right become a potent force. But his wild-card remarks — predicting doom for those he deemed insufficiently righteous and attributing natural disasters to perceived political and moral failings — ultimately pushed him to the cultural margins.

The Iron Sheik, WWE Hall of Famer, dead at 81: ‘He departed this world peacefully’
Married 47 years. He was huge in the 80's. RIP
When I was in high school back in 1985, I saw a WWF house show in Pensacola. The matches I remember best were Roddy Piper vs. Paul Orndorff, Randy Savage vs. Mr. Wrestling 2, and the British Bulldogs vs. Iron Sheik/Nikolai Volkoff. With the Sheik's passing, all of these wrestlers have now passed away.

Khosrow Vaziri, aka the Iron Sheik, was one of the truly original characters right up to the end. There are a couple of very good documentaries about him out there. His WWE HOF induction is on YouTube and fantastic, and his Twitter feed is the stuff of legend.

The Unabomber has reached room temperature

Another death that does not belong in a RIP thread. 81 was too long for him.

I oppose the death penalty but I wouldn’t have objected to Hannsen of the Unabomber getting the needle. But them living out the last 20 or so years in our worst prison seems fitting. It was probably really bad on Hannsen, who was used to the good life. The Unabomber might have enjoyed his time there.

They were both in the same prison, ADX Florence. It doesn't seem very enjoyable.

These inmates are kept in administrative segregation. They are confined in a single-person cell for 23 hours a day. During their hour outside the cell, which can occur at any time of day or night, they are kept under restraint (handcuffed, shackled, or both). The hour outside of the cell is for exercise and a phone call if they have earned the privilege. Their diet is restricted to ensure that the food cannot be used to harm themselves or to create unhygienic conditions in their cell.
Each cell contains a desk, stool, and bed, constructed almost entirely of poured concrete, as well as a toilet that shuts off if blocked, a shower that runs on a timer to prevent flooding, and a sink lacking a potentially dangerous tap. Rooms may also be fitted with polished steel mirrors bolted to the wall, an electric light that can be shut off only remotely, a radio, and a television that shows recreational, educational, and religious programming.[23]

That place would get old real quick!

Being trapped in a human size mouse hole for the rest of your miserable life. Yes, yes it would get old quick. Like in a New York Minute. But if you are going there, then you deserve it.

And I agree with the thought that neither Hannson or Unabomber deserves a spot in this thread, unless RIP means Rot in Purgatory.
