Stella loved racing—both automobiles and horses—and had many friends in both communities. His 1976 contribution to the BMW Art Car Project was a white BMW 3.0 CSL overlaid entirely by small black checkers, resembling graph paper. Over that base he painted thin geometric outlines in black. The car, driven by Brian Redman and Peter Gregg, raced in the 24 Hours of Le Mans, but didn’t finish the race due to an oil leak in hour five.

BMW M1 Pro car-painting, 1979; commissioned by Peter Gregg

Recording engineer legend Steve Albini died yesterday ( May 7th) at age 61. You might not know his name, but you almost certainly have heard his work. Rest in peace, Steve.

There's a very good article on Albini in the Guardian from August 2023. Edited this post to remove link, as there's definitely some language, as well as reference to a number of very transgressive things that Albini has said. But the story is really about his evolving perspective on that, and his willingness to explain the intention, own the shortcomings, and offer what might be one of the more sincere aplogies you're likely to see in public. A search of "evolution of Steve Albini" and you're sure to find it.
