Jasper Johnson is announcing his decision next week (no date yet). It's reportedly a tossup between us and Kentucky at this point, with some saying Bama has the slight edge, and others thinking Kentucky may have the slight edge. Hopefully Oats and Murph can reel him in.

Recent comments, from Jasper Johnson, don't seem to indicate him leaning toward UK.

Kentucky: “I like them (the staff). I got to meet them last month I’m pretty sure. Got to meet them and talk to them for a few minutes. Got to watch them practice and heard (Pope’s) message. Just got to see them play so just building that relationship. I know its his first year at Kentucky, but I feel like he will do a good job with the team he has this year.”

Alabama: “They produce every year. They produce great guards and their guard play is really good and they just had a Final Four run. Coach (Nate) Oats does a really good job up there so I’ve been staying in contact with them. A couple of my teammates from last year (Derrion Reid, Labaron Philon) are there now as freshman and they’re going to have a good year so I’m going to be watching them for sure.”

This sounds as if we have a bit more of a connection/relationship with him.

Meleek Thomas would certainly qualify as the "somebody similar" @TiderJack mentions above.

In my opinion, he would be an upgrade from Johnson, and, between the two, would be my pick simply because of his attitude regarding defense.

Meleek Thomas can score with the best of top talent in the country, but he says it is his defense that separates himself for the rest of the pack. "I take pride in defense," Thomas told the Pittsburgh Union Progress. "The more you get into the season, the harder the games become. The atmosphere becomes bigger. Everything just gets more serious, more intense. So, if I lollygagged around on defense, I would be viewed as a completely different player."

The commitment is a week later than he said, so maybe that's good news for us. If he'd already picked Kentucky, then I think the decision would've come this week.

Those quotes were from about a month ago and it seems momentum has shifted to UK since then but you never know and fingers crossed.
