339 Net Yrds wow!

It's simple math. Alabama could have given up 500 yards and they weren't going to fall out of the top spot in total defense.

That is good to know. Rushing should drop but whatever. I am still baffled by the effectiveness of their offense. They matched our speed and spread us out.

BTW - We will also still be #1 in rush defense as Cincinnati gave up over 200 yards on the ground to Rutgers in their loss today.

We will create even more distance between us and the field in the best passing defense category, as well as pass efficiency category.

We will also still be #1 in scoring defense.

Look at the stats - we will still be #1 in all 5 major categories after this game.

I feel better then. The Boys at the Harris Poll worry me.

Where did you get the #8 figure, anyway?

Someone threw it out there on the game thread, towards the end. Guess it is a rumor :)

Here it is, and was just speculatiion in the heat of the moment. Wasn't intended to be factual by the poster.

NCAA rushing D title is now wide open. Alabama has dropped from 51.9 ypg to 98 ypg just today. Could go from 1st to 8th nationally.

Disgusting...Depressing

All I care about now is Beating the Barn by a lot an awful lot. We have way to many smart mouths on TV running us down. Archie needs to shut his mouth & find someone stupid enough to coach at Ole Siss.

No, we'll drop to about 78 YPG rushing, and should still be good enough for first place unless LSU holds to Ole Miss to negative yards (which could happen, I suppose), but we'll still be ranked in the top of all catagories.

Come Sunday or Monday Alabama will still be listed first in total defense , passing defense , scoring defense and within 2 or 3 yards of remaining the leader in rushing defense . Depending on how many yards a couple of other teams give or gave today , Alabama could still lead in rushing defense as well .

While today was disturbing in a couple of areas , I felt the 7.7 ypc was easily the worst of it :(

Here is LSU's numbers....

83.8 ypg as of right now.

That's 838 total rushing yards, we've only given up 821 through 11 games to their 10. They'd have to hold Ole Siss to -17 tonight to even tie us. Wasn't even close until the 302 today...

You guys are only focused on the defensive stats that make us look bad. How about these stats:

2-9 on 3rd down
14 1st downs for the entire game
1 of 7 passing
gave up only 341 total yards
gave up only 14 points

For a game in which we were "smoked", we did pretty good.

Jesse Williams couldn't play, Josh Chapman didn't play, Nick Gentry didn't play. That probably had something to do with the rushing yards.

There's a tendency among coaches to play more conservatively when you have the better team...knowing that the only way you might lose is by turnovers or giving up big plays. Less blitzing, fewer defenders committed to agressive run support, etc. Leads to less 3 and outs but usually allows fewer big plays. Sorta bit us today but we're okay.

Kind of the bend but don't break philosophy. I think we probably did not implement new schemes as much as we could have due to a. we should be able to stop them with our regular defense b. it's just one game (time) c. don't confuse the players.

It looked to me like the LB's and safeties had the biggest roles in this game. We probably could have played Barron up closer or mixed up the linebackers responsibilities more to confuse them, and given less towards the pass, but you have to ask why? With our defense, we should be able to play them somewhat balanced to prevent the big play while containing the rush. What got us was their speed. Especially horizontally against our linebackers.

This was just one of those games. If this was a championship game or an offense that we would see more of, the coaches would have implemented more to confuse them instead of reacting. I understand their position with this one game, and it is just one game.

Roll Tide! March on.
