99 days until Alabama Football: Leigh Tiffin

Tiffin was a 4 year starter for Alabama and he played a crucial role in the Tide's undefeated 2009 SEC and National Championship season. For his contributions in 2009, he was named an All-American and 1st Team All-SEC. He would leave Alabama with 136/142 extra points made and 83/111 field goals made, garnering 385 points which is still the most in program history.

98 days until Alabama Football: Leroy Cook
We are 98 days away from kickoff! Leroy Cook (98) was a defensive lineman for Alabama from 1972-1975. His breakout year came in 1974 when he totaled 81 tackles and 10 TFLs with 6 of those being sacks. He would then follow up that amazing season with an even BETTER year in 1975. That year he garnered 85 tackles, 14 for loss with 9 of those being sacks in that season on the way to being named SEC Player of the Year. He would leave Alabama a 2x All-SEC and 2x All-American awardee and ended his career with 200 tackles for the Tide. Though his NFL career would be thwarted by a freak knee injury, he remains a very underrated Tide legend.

97 days until Alabama Football: Cornelius Bennett
We are 97 days away from kickoff! Cornelius Bennett (97) was a linebacker for the Tide from 1983-1986. In these four seasons, he recorded 287 tackles and 21.5 sacks, none more memorable than "The Sack" of Notre Dame quarterback Steve Beuerlein that would go down as his most famous play (pictured). His senior year was his best season and would see him capture both the Lombardi Award and SEC Player of the Year Award. He was also named to his THIRD All-American team that year which is tied for the most in program history! After graduating, Bennett would go on to be drafted 2nd overall in the 1987 draft and would enjoy a very successful NFL career that would see him named to the Pro Bowl 5x and First Team All-Pro 3x. 96 days until Alabama Football: Michael Myers
We are 96 days away from kickoff! Michael Myers (96) was a defensive lineman for Alabama from 1996-1997. Myers began his college career playing JUCO ball at Hinds Community College (MS) and he absolutely dominated. He left Hinds after 2 seasons as a 2-Time JUCO All-American, transferred to the University of Alabama entering the 1996 season. Myers was spectacular in his first and only full season for the Tide, amassing 8 sacks on the way to being named First Team All-SEC. He headed into 1997 with preseason All-SEC and All-American nods but his college career would be abruptly ended after his eligibility was stripped for being in contact with a sports agent following the first game of the 1997 season. Myers would end up being drafted in the 4th round of the 1998 draft by the Dallas Cowboys and enjoy a very solid 9 year NFL career.

94 days until Alabama Football: John Copeland
We are 94 days away from kickoff! John Copeland (94) was a defensive lineman for Alabama from 1991-1992. Like Michael Myers, who we recognized a couple days ago, Copeland ALSO originally attended Hines Community College before transferring to play for Alabama. Copeland's Tide career got off to a rough start, with the future star suffering an ankle injury in his first spring practice. This left him with serious questions about his career. With the advice of defensive end Eric Curry (80), he decided to continue playing for Gene Stallings and would help make the 1992 Alabama defense one of the greatest defenses of all time. Both he and Curry would terrorize opposing offenses in 1992 and they were both named All-Americans for their effort. Most importantly though, they would help bring the program its 12th National Championship, defeating the heavily favored Miami Hurricanes 34-13 in the Sugar Bowl to finish off an undefeated season. After his graduation, Copeland was drafted with the 5th pick in the 1993 NFL Draft by the Cincinnati Bengals and he would end up enjoying a very solid 8 year career in Cincy.

93 days until Alabama Football: Marty Lyons
We are 93 days away from kickoff! Marty Lyons (93) was a defensive lineman for Alabama from 1975-1978. Lyons had a huge impact on Bear Bryant's defense, especially his senior year in 1978. That season, he would lead the team in tackles with 119 and would be named SEC Player of the Year and an All-American for his efforts. His most iconic moment with the Tide came in the last game of his Alabama career in the 1979 Sugar Bowl against Penn State. He was a key contributor in the set of plays that would be later known as "The Goal-Line Stand". When prompted by Penn State QB Chuck Fusina about how far the ball was from the goal line, Marty responded, "Bout a foot. You better pass." Penn State should have listened... They would be stuffed once again on the next play and Alabama would go on to win the Sugar Bowl and the National Championship. Not a bad way to end your collegiate career!! After graduating, Lyons would be drafted 14th overall by the New York Jets and would play there for the duration of his 11 year NFL career.

91 days until Alabama football: Bob Baumhower
We are 91 days away from kickoff! Bob Baumhower (91) was a defensive tackle for Alabama from 1973-1976. A staple in Paul “Bear” Bryant’s defense; Baumhower was an interior lineman’s worst nightmare in the run game, but he could also get after the QB as great as any defensive tackle. Baumhower received sporadic playing time in 1974 but showed a lot of promise and would break out in 1975. In his first as a starter, Bob helped the Tide to an SEC Championship and a victory over Penn State in the 1975 Sugar Bowl. He was named First Team All-SEC for his efforts that season, a feat he would repeat in the 1976 season as a senior. After graduating, Baumhower was and has been successful both off and on the field! Focusing on his on the field career; Bob was drafted with the 40th pick in the 1977 draft by the Miami Dolphins, where he would play under legendary coach Don Shula for his entire 10-year career. He would retire from the NFL with an amazing 888 total tackles and 39.5 sacks. For his efforts, he was named to 5 Pro Bowls and 5 All-Pro Teams and was honored with a spot on the Miami Dolphins Honors Roll.
