What's the word? I've been on vacation, but all the news outlets appear ominously silent. I only see his name in the list of guys wearing orange jerseys and running the stadium steps. I was really pulling for him to get back this season. Anyone seen him at practice?

This is JUST MY PERSONAL OPINION, but...

I believe we're likely wasting a scholarship at this time. I believe that AC should have been made a graduate assistant at this time so we can keep him on the team, but frankly it appears to me that he's not healed and won't be back.

Personally, I hope and pray I'm wrong, but if he can't practice as of today, which is August 18th, what makes us think he can play on September 4?

On the other hand, is it possible that Shula is simply playing "hide the talent" and pretending like he can't practice so we can play him when we need him? I suppose so, but frankly he'll eventually have to show his cards early in the season, so it really doesn't matter. I would like to see him get some reps in practice "IF" he is going to play.

He is at practice but has yet to take the field. I believe he is still wearing the orange jersey that injured players wear. Yes, this is it for AC. He has no elligability left.

Alan, missing it here just a bit. With AC, we've got another coach on the field in practice. Young team...YOUNG TEAM...he'll help build a foundation. Believe you me...when I think back in 20 or so years about this whole probation thing it will not be about Hawaii. It won't be about fRan or if Price is drinking Maker's Mark. It'll be about AC. It'll be about Lane......

You can provide leadership from the sidelines as well as from inside the huddle. I think keeping his scholly is a good move. And, even if the worst is true, you could see him take the field late in the season.

Scholly is Moot Point.

It doesn't matter whether AC is on Scholly, because we were limited to 19 anyway (which we more than filled). And we are not at NCAA Probation cap of 80. In other words, if AC didn't have it, no one would have it. I wish he could play and I hope he does. But all indications are that his days playing are done.

He is a good person, loyal to the bone to the Tide, and a good leader. With him having a scholly at this time, it is like having an extra GA. Hopefully he will consider becoming a GA at the Capstone next year.

What do we know about his current status? Sure, he is still wearing the injured colors, but is there little likelihood that he will play at all? Is it going to be one of these play it by the week type things?

Really makes me sad. I really thought he would be playing this year. And if AC is playing, he IS contributing. I guess he will contribute in other ways. Boy, I wish he was going to be playing though. He was awesome.

I'd bet my momma's false teeth he will play this season at one time or the other. It may be purely a sanctimonious occasion but a well deserved one at that. Loyalty deserves reward and if anyone has been loyal and determined AC has.

Thanks AC for your contributions over the past 5 or is it 6 years. Your true crimson colors have been inspiring to all of us. You will play this season, you deserve no less!

:biga2: ROLL TIDE ROLL :biga2:

since this is the last hurrah for him, i'd bet we'll see him get on the field at some point...even if his leg falls off while he's running a route. i feel for him...he's crimson to the core. good luck AC, hope to see you in formation this season!

Carter's scholarship with UA is costing us nothing at this time. We're limited to 80 through the end of this year by NCAA rules but have only 70-74 on scholarship anyway. We were also limited to 19 initial counters this year and filled all slots, so it didn't cost us there, either.

As to whether he'll play, my guess is he runs a couple of plays for recognition's sake against Utah State or Western Carolina and anything other than that, probably not. He participated in some of the summer work, but there's a difference between running and full-contact football.

I agree with Terry P

AC will be a great asset on the sideline even if he does not get to play. The knowledge he can pass on to the younger players is of great value.Tips and position, style of play, encouragement, He has alot to contribute off the feild as well. I hope he gets to play,if not he still has value in my opinion..RTR :biga:

And Watts running through the Volunteer defense in Knoxville, Jarrett Johnson smothering that LSU rb for about a five yard loss in Baton Rouge, Shaud's two 80 yard runs vs the Hogs, Wesley Britt's leadership, Brodie Croyle's guts and determination, and so much more. There's a lot of negative from the past 2 years, but I agree with you; there's a lot of positive too.

Roll Tide Roll :BigA:

Alabama doesn't abandon its guys just because they get hurt. We demand much of them and they deserve our loyalty. AC will probably be a great coach one day and I hope its with the Tide. In that bleak 2000 season when everybody else had quit, He was still giving it everything he had.

I think you guys are completely missing the boat and you're wrong on >

the scholarship issue.

Let me tackle my thoughts first. Having AC on scholarship IS DEFINITELY costing us a scholarship because it could have been given to a walk-on from last year who earned it. Therefore, I don't know where you are saying it isn't wasted if he doesn't play because it is wasted if another kid has earned the opportunity to be on scholarship and can play!

Also, I NEVER suggested that we couldn't use AC! As a matter of fact I said lets make him a graduate assistant. He has already completed his degree and is working on his masters. By making him a graduate assistant, we could still pay his tuition as he would simply be an employee of the university instead of on scholarship.

Finally Terry, I will always look back on this time and think of Lane and AC as well! However, there is no reason to keep a kid on scholarship if you can use it elsewhere and IF you can still offer the person the opportunity to continue to contribute ON THE FIELD with his leadership and coaching skills.

Alan, you are either not reading or not understanding. We have fewer than 75 on scholarship now and can have a total of 80. If we still have between 5 and 10 scholarships open that can be given to walkons, HOW ARE WE WASTING ONE ON AC?

Because the number of scholarships available has >

absolutely NOTHING to do with the number we are allowed to give away. The only way you can give a walk-on a "new" scholarship is by using one of the 19 that we had available last year or the 17 we had prior to that. AC's scholarship can ONLY go to someone who was a walk-on last year.

Read the rules my good man, but that's why we're wasting a scholarship. Injuries to current scholarship players or scholarships lost due to academics can ONLY be used if they are given to walk-ons from the previous year "IF" you don't have any of the 19 left from this year.

Basically what I'm saying is that while someone may have earned the scholarship that walked on last year, we can't afford to use one of the 19 available from this signing class.
