No doubt Downs and his family are truly believing they made the right move to transfer. The team he transferred to is playing for the NC and we went 9-4.
He would've been good for one extra win, and we'd be in the playoffs if he were still here. We definitely beat Vandy with Downs. There's no doubt about that. That said, we're set at safety for next year, so it won't hurt as much next year

Two. We lost to Tennessee because of Defense. We got killed by their running game. Shut that down and we would've won. Downs would've been great in run support game.

It doesnt matter now. We'll be fine.

Notre Dame did not get to the championship game by accident. There are definitely guys on that roster.
Notre Dame had a very easy draw for the playoffs. Every team they played had a soft schedule and lost to the only above average teams they played. Then there was Georgia, playing their first game without their experienced starting quarterback.

You’re right though, they didn’t get there by “accident.”

Defense had three turnovers in the first half the offense couldn’t convert any of them into points. It’s criminal to blame that lose on the defense. If you convert those into points Tennessee most likely gets away from the run game. Plus that was three opportunities to shut the crowd up and our offense failed to step up each time.

yeah - putting any blame at all for that game on the D is just trying to take the blame from where it belongs; he-who-won't-be-named.

The D pitched a SHUTOUT in the first half against a very solid offense, all the while our O was stuck (again) and completely squandering opportunities with a lot of 3-and-out drives (basically 6 for the game if we include not converting on 4th late in Q4).

But what happened in 2nd half for the defense?

But what happened in 2nd half for the defense?
They ran out of gas after trying to keep us in the game with zero help from the other side because Jalen Milroe was god awful terrible the whole game and couldn't get the ball within 5 yards of a WR.

The 2016 Alabama Defense is considered one of the best ever and they had the same type of thing happen to them vs Clemson and they gave up 28 2nd half points.

Was that NCG loss to Clemson that Defenses fault?

We lost to Tenn because of Milroe.

If we had half way competent QB play in that game the Defense doesn't get tired and we probably win by 7-10 points

The Tenn loss is Milroe's Fault

The OU loss is Milroe's Fault

The Mich loss is Milroe's Fault.

But what happened in 2nd half for the defense?
Our offense had 7 possessions and four of them were failures in either turning the ball over or going 3 and out.

The last 4 drives were 3/out, 3/out, t/o on downs (only 4 plays), and INT (ONE play). Not sustaining drives leads to awful field position and a short field for the opponent. The scoring drives where TN took the lead were 54 yards for TD and 8 yards for a FG.

that's after having 7 drives in the first half, with FOUR again being failures (3, 3/outs, and an INT.

The only loss you can pin on the D was vs Vandy and that was ne bad half vs an oddball offense w Pavia at qb. Even them the O should have done more at times.
Vandy was a team debacle for sure. Pick six on a late throw and a QB fumble converted for another TD didn't help the D much and that makes them look a bit better at 27 points, but the D needed way more stops than they got and only forced 2 vandy punts on the day.
