A realistic Prognostication from a Sportswriter!!

Conversations like this are what happens when football fans have no football to watch. We have way too much time to think.

Saban will bring us back. And we will see the progress as we go along.

Yeah, that is his MO. It's the Saban way or the highway and he could care less if fans, boosters, or media like his style or not. The upside to Saban's way of doing things is clear, his methods produce results and those results turn into wins. Fans like wins. Fans dislike losses.

I think it's pretty odd how everyone thinks that it's going to take 3-5 years for us to get back into just being just competitive in the SEC when we were already competitive in the SEC before Saban got here. It's not like we were bottom feeders. Bottom line is this, Saban has already shown what he can do with an SEC Team. He took an LSU team that might have been equal to or maybe slightly less talented than this years Bama team and in his first season, went 8-4. Year 2, he won 10 games and an SEC Title. Year 3, a dropoff back to 8 wins. Year 4, another SEC Title and a National Championship. Get the picture.

We have the facilities and the coach to recruit any stud we want. We made a big step with this class and in the following years our recruiting classes will only get better. We will be doing more than just trying to compete for an SEC title in 5 years. I rest my case.

Case made and very well, too! Sometimes over-analyzing "facts" are non-beneficial.....the only real fact anyone knows @ this point is: CNS is HC. All else remains to be seen-beginning Sept. 1st. I enjoy reading all the analysis from everyone. I will say of all the "pros" Rivals seems to have more "hits" than "misses"-but then some of the "misses" are whoppers!

I belong to and read a few rival message boards. I see posts every day about all us gumps thinking Nick will make us overnight world beaters. I guess they just read a couple of posts before going back to their boards to post their opinion of us.

We are our own worst enemy at times.

Rome was built in a day. The Sistine Chapel was painted during a lunch break. So, it stands to reason that we'll win the MNC next year, right?

Not next year, but I at least want to pick up a preseason mag in 4 years and see Bama mentioned next to USC, Florida, the Horns, and LSU in terms of competing for some hardware.

What make us different than Sabans LSU teams? It's not like he is taking over Vandy.

That is exactly what I would like national prominence not just conference prominence.

For sure, 10 wins will take a miracle on defense. Some older guys who've been moved around or were originally walkons will have to invent a whole new persona. OR, incoming frosh will have to come in and surprise. Not that it can't happen, but Saban has been at pains to try to get our fan base to think realistically about the process. From all the "ten wins or I'm disappointed" posts, I can tell he's not getting through...

I completely agree with that. I think many look at our roster and think that b/c our players play for UA, they are as talented as anyone that they play against. Our front 7 and safeties on D are very inexperienced. 10 wins is way too optimistic for this season. Anything is possible, but I see 8 regular season wins (losing to LSU, FSU, UGA, and either AU or UT).

It took CNS some time a few years to develop the team at LSU. We are likely going to start 2 freshman on D (Rolando and one of the incomers or Motley at NT). We could face some trouble by having 18-19 year olds face up against 22-23 year olds in the trenches where it is a battle of strength and endurance. One offseason with CNS does not equal 3 or 4 years of D-1 S&C conditioning. I hope for the best, but our youth on D really worries me.

they used to keep their mouths shut - There was a time you could not hardly find an Auburn fan. Give credit where it's due though, Tubberville & Co has really brought them out of the woodwork.

No credit from me dude ..... They've done this against a probation weakend BAMA program with no stability at the top, that hasn't been able to stop the Barn and Tubbs in nabbing the good recruits the last few years..... But only one SEC title managed during this time..... Nope no credit here. Pat Dye made Barner football respectable.....Not Tubbs or Charlie Brown.....and if he were still coach these days, we would have been in a serious world of hurt the last 6 years and they would have a few more SEC banners.

This is all about to change though.... Take this years class for instance. We stole a few from them and it's going to get worse in the years to come.

I give 'em credit they did not just beat Bama during Tubbys years. I don't like to give 'em credit but hey I gotta be honest. They have come along way since the plane trip. I don't see it continuing

I know they had a recruiting edge on Bama but still I give Borges..etc some credit i hope it ends

What's your point? There's going to be Freshman starting on lots of SEC teams this year. In reality, we have a pretty talented and experienced group of DE's in Gilberry and Greenwood. Yeah, NT is a concern but I feel like we will get a decent rotation there and a fresh 18-19 year old will usually hold his own in a head to head battle against a tired 21-22 year old Guard or Center that has played for multiple Quarters. D-Line play is all about getting fresh bodies in.

LB's, Prince Hall is a stud and I am not about say Saunders and Knight are duds. I'm kinda worried about depth but overall the group has some experience. I'm also not worried about playing McClain at LB because he is the only Freshman that will get time with the #1's and he would probably do that for any team in the nation.

One offseason with CNS does not equal 3 or 4 years of D-1 S&C conditioning.

Last time I checked, we were still a Div. 1 team that got training from some high level Div. 1 S&C coaches. Coaches with NFL pedigrees and lots of awards. I know that we may have not been as physically prepped as some other SEC teams but it doesn't mean that the current staff had to start from scratch either. I feel pretty sure guys like Demeco Ryans and Roman Harper would beg to differ that they didn't go through a Div. 1 Conditioning program.

Please read my post again. I know they beat us in years other than the Tubs era.... That was my whole point. They won more hardware while beating a healthy Tide a few years in a row during Dye's days than they have with Tubbs. Hell, Charlie Brown even beat a healthy Tide while the Barn was under NCAA sanctions!
Tupperware has had an advantage and still couldn't pull off more than one SEC while we were down. He beat up on us yeah!!! Big Whoop! So what, a BAMA program in shambles with questionable leadership till now..... Tubbs has done less with more... Not the other way around. Underachieved if you as me.
Nope no credit to the Barn or Tubs during the last 6 years. They were still third team in the SEC compared to FLA and LSU. Now it's about to be back to the middle like they are used to in the next few years when we get this thing going.
