He's an interesting case, because while I don't think he's a good QB, not every team is capable of shutting him down.
I think sometimes coaches are like gambling addicts. gambling addicts always think that big win is coming. Even to the end. I think the last two coaching staffs were thinking "what if he could get the passing part down". It blinded them to the reality of what was in front of them every day.

We will not win a playoff game ever again, as in EVER unless we can put a competent passing attack on the field that can balance out the run. You absolutely will not beat great defenses with a one trick pony. They will absolutely crush your pony. Only the teams that have multiple ways to beat you are going to win those types of games.

For me, personally, I did not enjoy the season. I turned games off multiple times because I was watching bad football. I'm not going to give up Saturdays with perfect weather to watch garbage. The games we won were not great, and especially the Georgia game, where we got to watch an insurmountable lead be overtaken.

There was bad coaching, bad playing, bad behavior, bad outcomes, underachievement, and badly misplaced hopes.

The bright spot is recruiting, which seems to be going well, so I remain hopeful that next season we see major improvements.

I wonder if we'll ever truly know what happened.

It was concerning when CKD touted JM as the QB before a play was run in practice after he took over for CNS.

The narrative is that JM was instrumental in holding team things together and keeping the transfer numbers down.

Now ask yourself "why" CKD felt the need to do that? We'll never know it all, but there were dynamics that had nothing to do with play on the field.

Looking ahead, I'm 100% confident the next QB will play because of his "play on the field."

Where ever there's BBQ, Bourbon & Football
Again, WRT the QB position, we don't need Johnny Manziel, Jayden Daniels, Tua types of performances. We just need a ball distributor who doesn't turn the ball over, doesn't take sack after sack and knows how to do his business at the LOS wrt the OL protection. We're in business if the QB can be anything like AJ McCarron or Jake Coker.

But the negative plays, turnovers, and overly simplified offense have to go or it will be like shooting fish in a barrel for opposing defenses.

maybe somebody on the team will write a book someday?

I'm not sure Vandy really accomplished this. He threw for 310 yards, and if not for his two gifts to Vandy, it would've been one of his best games. I give credit where credit is due, but I'm not sure Vandy's defense deserves the credit for that. His turnovers definitely cost us the game, but that was all self-inflicted. UT and Oklahoma have legit defenses, so that really fits with Milroe's patterns over the last two years. He's an interesting case, because while I don't think he's a good QB, not every team is capable of shutting him down. That's probably part of what makes him so polarizing. If you don't have the personnel, he can make you look silly, but if you do, you can make him look silly.
he also got somewhat easier to limit as the season went on. Some of his tells got more pronounced and his tendencies easier to exploit. It seemed some teams abandoned the typical edge play philosophy in ways to force JM to try to run outside, with the LBs and S responsible for him and it worked a good deal more for them than it did for us.

I can't make heads/tails of it. Props to JM and the offensive staff for doing so, even including UGA being able to slow down JM for most of the 2nd half.

As for Vandy, maybe that was more of the defense's fault than the offense. UT - we all seen the cut ups of JM missing wide open WRs. OU - could just be a Venables curse.
The offensive staff deserves all the credit against UGA. Sheridan knew Kirby was going to overload to what JM had shown before and how to get certain D alignments based on formation because of that. Sheridan scripted some stuff to exploit that and it took kirby 4 drives to figure it out where we built the lead. Once we ran out of the 'special sauce' and had to run what the normal JM offense was, we only got 10 more points in 2 and a half quarters.

JM appears to be kryptonite for LSwho. In context, he only slightly surpassed 100 yards passing that day. Even missing Perkins, who would have made a huge difference, LSU has enough dudes to make plays and this year the whole season they really just weren't. They just seem to poop themselves against JM even moreso.

Makes sense. When he went lateral an eighth grade girl could tackle him.

To my knowledge there's been nothing. Not a statement, tweet, no nothing.

Could mean anything. Could mean nothing.

@JustNeedMe81 speculated he might come on as an analyst. He said it was just a "gut" notion.
I just don't see him coming back to Alabama as OC. Sheridan was inconsistent with play calling this year, but In my opinion, he would benefit a lot from Grubb's knowledge and learn how to call the right plays in right situation. Now replacing Sheridan with Grubb is basicaly a wash.

We watched with our own eyes. I didn’t read 29 pages of this thread, but flawed algorithms aside, all the computers have this 9-4 squad as one of the best in the country. I don’t know how. I would say they were bad at situational football, just clean up some things and it was a great team. But we all saw getting pushed around by Vandy , dominated by OU. Latest computer rankings. S&P+ #3, Sagarin #8, FPI #4 . Obviously the computers likes this team for some reason.

This reinforces why I don't think computer rankings should ever be the end all be all for team selection. The results on the field have to matter, and this team looked pathetic on a few occasions this year. They had a few nice wins and gave us some fun moments, but they also pulled the rug out from under us any time we started to believe in their championship winning capabilities.

2024 Alabama is the classic example of your point. The Herky Jerky feast or famine offense looks the same as a solid offense when averaged out over multiple games. Bill Connelly of S&P+ makes a point that a lucky win when a team plays poorly , drops in the ratings. Like wise when a team plays well but looses in unlucky fashion, That may rise in the ratings. Obviously their system was GIGO when it came to Alabama.

I agree that computers shouldn’t be overly relied upon to pick playoff teams, but they do show that the team had the potential to be better than they looked at times, which I think was part of the poster‘s point. Things aren’t as dire as they seem. Losing one guy should make a huge difference next year.
