A-Day wrap-up: Some questions answered, some still remain
By Jess Nicholas, TideFans.com Editor-In-Chief

Alabama had a lot of questions to answer in this A-Day scrimmage, but rush edge play was not one of them.

Will Anderson Jr., Dallas Turner and Chris Braswell gave the world a taste of what opposing quarterbacks can expect this coming fall. What they’re in for can be summed up in one word, blitzkrieg.

There wasn’t a left tackle on the team that could handle any of Bama’s three rush ends for long. Reserve left tackle Tommy Brockermeyer may have done the best job, although that’s like a road crew trying to figure out who among its ditch-diggers is best at composing poetry.

The real answer for Alabama’s offensive tackle woes – and “woes” might be too kind a description of the situation – won’t arrive until August, when Vanderbilt transfer Tyler Steen shows up. The only good side to the problem is that Alabama’s offensive linemen won’t have to play against these guys themselves.

Jess could it be a bit premature to be judging the OL? OL is a pretty complex position to learn and we have a new OL coach on staff. He has only had the spring to work with the guys which is not a lot of time at all. I personally hope by August he can make his presence felt and things will be looking better at the start of the season.

The Gloom and Doom of some fans, based on a Inter-squad scrimmage in the rain,is amazing :ROFLMAO: The young men were glad just to have spring practice done and over with. Some things I didnt like were:
1)JC Latham would have had multiple Illegal procedures getting out of his stance. He didnt do a bad job at all getting in to people and getting them moved. I like Booker as well.Of course the scrimmage went South up front.KRandolph will never be a starter up front.I saw a couple decent things out of Tommy B...
2) Our cadence is still problematic..If you know anything about offensive football you will know what I mean.Nobody that I have ever seen at the level that Alabama is allows snap counts and cadence to be jumped more than Alabama. It just kills our OTs.Happened all last year also.
3)Bryce's ball-handling is still horrible, and of course they still refuse to change his launch points. He did throw a nice RPO early to Burton.

This team IS/and will be FAST...On both sides of the ball. And if/when they continue to get good push and pressure from the interior part of their Defense?....They are going to be a BIG problem for teams when they have the ball. And to get out of Spring ball without any significant injuries(At least that I know of)is tremendous.

Happens every year.

Honestly, I have stopped paying much attention to A-day. I just don't think you really learn anything. So many years ABC has looked outstanding and XYV looks horrible only for everything to change when the season finally starts. I remember a lot of hype about an OL last spring that never really materialized during the season. If your defense has an amazing day is it because they are great or your offense is bad, or a mixture of both? It's a vanilla public scrimmage, just not a whole to to take away IMO.

Jess do you think that the tight end Niblack( Aka Jurassic Park) if he can learn the playbook will have a row, I have heard he will be a big mismatch for defenses

was finally able to watch the game last night. Overall I think the LB spots are going to be interesting to watch to see who the 2's are and how some guys develop into different roles over time. From what I could tell, Campbell played exclusively as an ILB. Even though he doesn't really meet the prototype, Kennedy did really well as an OLB as well.

As I have mentioned before I am not concerned at all about the DL. We have a lot of good options and the pressure that our OLBs will bring opens everything up.

WR will be fine.
We sink or swim with the OL this year.

Milroe has to improve his accuracy to be in Cam territory???

FINALLY, I was able to record and watch the A-Day Game. I cannot tell you how often the SEC schedule changes from what is posted on cable TV guides. Ugh.

My thoughts -- as if anyone cares:
I am feeling much better about the OL after watching the game. T Brockemeyer has talent at LT...just needs to get stronger. With 3 starters out there was no way the others could block our DL...

The defense is incredible...although I could not quite tell who was out of position on the long cutback TD run by Gibbs. Looked like the backside LB over ran the play. I'm not even worried about our CBs. Lots of talent and hard work going on there.

Milroe is the real deal...his continued development is crucial to the future. Ty Simpson has good ability and a great feel for the game...but he is clearly 3rd team.

T. Sanders vaulting Kyree Jackson was the highlight of the game. Think how far he has come in a couple of years from that horrendous accident. Jamarion Miller has talent...Gibbs is as advertised...cannot wait to see Emmanuel Henderson in the fall.

I do believe that we are in need of more speed at WR -- desperately. I get that speed guys did not come here while our room was stacked...but I did not see a lot of speed on the field at WR...or else our DB's are just as fast as they are. CNS has convinced me that speed scores quickly and makes the game much easier for the offense. I hope that Addison -- the Pittsburgh WR -- comes as that, with the Louisville WR and what we have on hand will make for a great WR room.

Not worried about BY's game...he sees the field better than ever. We just need a couple of puzzle pieces to complement him...

Ready for September to get here...we have 5 fairly tough away games next year...the SEC is not getting any easier.
