The Tide suffered its first loss of the season in the Friso Classic finale
3/3/2024
FRISCO, TX – Alabama baseball suffered a 7-5 loss to No. 23 Dallas Baptist in extra innings on Sunday afternoon at Riders Field. The 15th-ranked Crimson Tide finished 2-1 in the Frisco Classic and is now 11-1 on the year.
Dallas Baptist was first to strike with one in the top of the second, but Alabama countered with a three-spot in the home half. The Patriots answered with one run in the third to cut the lead in half, but the Tide added two more in the fourth to make it a 5-2 affair after four. DBU then tied things up with one run in the fifth and two in the sixth before both teams went scoreless the rest of regulation, sending it to extras. In the 12th, Dallas Baptist was able to retake the lead with two runs. Alabama reached a pair of runners with two down in the home half to bring the winning run to the plate, but a strikeout ended the rally.
Mac Guscette led the offense with a 3-for-6 day that included a double and two runs scored. TJ McCants and Justin Lebron tied for the team lead in RBI with two apiece while Lebron and Evan Sleight each homered to round out the offense.
Tyler Schott (1-0) got the win for Dallas Baptist while Nick Wilson picked up the save, his second of the season. Coulson Buchanan (0-1) suffered the loss.
From Head Coach Rob Vaughn
"We competed; we just weren't good enough to win tonight. We didn't deserve to win today, (Dallas Baptist) deserved it. They got big swings in big spots, they capitalized on some of our mistakes and sometimes that happens. It was a good game, we just ended up on the wrong side of it. We've got an opportunity to bounce back on Tuesday against Jacksonville State and be a better version of ourselves then."
