To me this is a little like the player's jersey thing. People had player jerseys on, it just wasn't official. If you've been to the games you know people were getting drunk, but the athletic department wasn't making any money off of it...

So the guy saying fans were clamoring for for brewskies is the same guy who insisted on changing up "Dixieland Delight"?

I can't wait to see the Inebriated A Capella Choir on this one. I sat next to one of the biggest jerks in my life at the 2014 Florida game, and I can only imagine how bulletproof he might have thought he was with additional liquid. He was harrassing Gator fans who were doing nothing wrong but trying to enjoy the game.

Fortunately, none of our fans has a drinking problem, so this will be a great moneymaker for UA.

I hate going to games where they sell alcohol. I was at the Florida State game CNS's first year. That is the only game I have ever been to that I saw a fight. Alcohol was the reason. I know people drink prior to the game but these two were drinking to excess all game long until the Bama fan couldn't take the war chant anymore.

I was at Florida last year. Anyone that has been to a Florida game knows that visiting section and the Florida student section share a section. Well before the game I saw a ton of Florida students with tons of 24 packs going to their seats. Sure enough there were flying cans entering our section in the 4th.

I was also at the NCG last year and I got tired getting up for some drunk to constantly go get a beer. These were the same people over and over all game long.

For anyone suggesting this won't be any different from the people who sneak in airline bottles to pour into their sodas, I wish I had 1% of your optimism.

UA is hell-bent on squeezing every dollar they can out of the football program, regardless as to whether or not it destroys the product in the meantime.

Oh well, it's just one more reason for me to stay home and watch the game. I can drink as much or little as I wish and don't have to tolerate those who have no self-control.

They have to though, in order to stay competitive. This is an arms race, and to keep up you need to keep up financially. Alabama can't afford to fall behind.

We can seriously contemplate the repercussions of NIL, ESPN basically owning the SEC, the playoff harming bowl season, superconferences and making the SEC even harder, etc... but the fact of the matter if it's full speed ahead, otherwise you get left behind. And that's even worse.

Yeah go to a real game with alcohol sales and you’ll be totally against it.

I used to think alcohol sales wouldn’t affect the game and it would be no different than people sneaking in a small of Jose or jack. But after last year I was proven completely wrong. Allowing alcohol sales in college athletics is 10x worse than any pro game I have ever been to. People just treat the concession stands as a bar and the seats as a club.

I went to football games in Germany...
Heck, I went to the Gathering of the Juggalos haha
I don’t like ICP and I have found Germans typically can hold their alcohol better than Americans. But I still don’t think they really compare to American drunks at college football games.

Just trust me. I have never hated sitting through an Alabama game more than last years NCG or the Florida game and it had nothing to do with the game.

From 2014-2019 I went to just about every Alabama home game, a bowl game, and one road game a year. Since I moved I’ve really just picked 1 or 2 home games, the big road game, and a playoff game if it is not on the west coast. I’ve been to several NFL games as well. So I have seen what alcohol free and alcohol carrying stadiums. I’ve seen the worst parts of fandom and the best. Usually that involves alcohol and a lack of security.

Anyone that believes nothing will change from people who snuck in a few bottles here and there to open sales either really doesn’t go to many games or has an insane amount of optimism about their fellow Bama and SEC fans.

The NFL stadiums have trained security to deal with it and price gouges the hell out of alcohol sales in certain areas of the stadium to slow consumption. The SEC might do the latter but I guarantee you that Alabama is going to nickel and dime security like they already do and we are going to see far more fights and people passing out in that September heat than ever before. I can already imagine an Iron Bowl or a Bama-LSU game having numerous arrests and fights.

This is not a good idea for in the stadium. If you want to have beer gardens outside the stadium or serve to certain sections then fine. But I guarantee you that this is going to blow back in their faces once Tuscaloosa ups the bill on them using the police.

Meh.

Bama could refuse to sell alcohol at BDS and they would still remain in the top three in total revenue.

A few million isn't going to make much difference in the grand scheme of things, butI I 100% guarantee it will diminish many, many people's enjoyment of the live experience. And I'm not a teetotaler. Just wait, the stories will be rolling in as soon as they start this.

Yeah, I couldn't possibly see a problem with someone tailgating for hours before a game and then drinking as many beers as they want for 4-5 hours and then needing to drive home. Not to mention all the people sitting in front, beside or behind them having to put up with a fan who thinks he more fun when he's drunk.

BDS is about to become Dega. The loyal Curry era fans will stop going and fewer will be willing to take their place once they see how much of a bar it is and how great the recliner in the man cave is.

Like we need more yet more alcoholics in our country. This is stupid on so many levels. Nobody needs to drink alcohol at a football game. We're doing just fine without alcohol being sold in the stadium. Yeah, some people sneak it in, whatever, but for all that is holy, we don't need another 20,000-30,000 people getting drunk in the stands.
