News Article: Alabama Hires Nate Oats From Buffalo

Re: Alabama Set to Hire Nate Oats From Buffalo

Well I'm looking for positives and the 1st thing we should improve on is Free Throw%

Buffalo 2015: 71% (131st)
Alabama 2015: 64% (332nd)

Buffalo 2016: 69.2% (203rd)
Alabama 2016: 65.3% (321st)

Buffalo 2017: 69.9% (237th)
Alabama 2017: 67.0% (310th)

Buffalo 2018: 68.7% (246th)
Alabama 2018: 66.6% (314th)

Maybe not the biggest improvement but Buffalo has averaged 204th in that 4 year span and Alabama has averaged 319th

It will be nice to be somewhat close to Top Half in the NCAA instead of near almost rock bottom.

I wonder if our AD had him tabbed from the git-go. Like, top of the list guy.

When's his press conference, or did I miss it?

How many games would that have won this year? We would’ve beat Tennessee for sure.

I'm cautiously optimistic about the hire. Does make me feel better to see that the Buffalo Wikipedia hounds don't wanna lose their man lol.

"On March 14, 2019, Oats signed a contract extension with the University at Buffalo to remain head basketball coach through the 2024 season. This he will do. On March 27th 2019 there has been false rumors spread saying he’ll be coaching Alabama after the firing of Avery Johnson for that is not true. He is here to stay, in Buffalo, NY."

Not going to front ... I'm impressed. He and Watford would compliment each other well

Re: Alabama Set to Hire Nate Oats From Buffalo

HC Mike White came to Florida from Louisiana Tech
HC Kermit Davis came to Ole Miss from Middle Tennessee Univ
HC Will Wade came to LSU from Virginia Commonwealth Univ
HC Bruce Pearl came to Tennessee from Wisconsin-Milwaukee after getting hammered by the NCAA now at Auburn

Just an FYI, none exactly major college powerhouses

Re: Alabama Set to Hire Nate Oats From Buffalo

Never heard of Nate Oats, didn’t watch any of Buffalo this year, and I didn’t expect the search to be wrapped up until a few weeks but okay, I’ll give him a chance. I hope he exceeds all expectations

Now if he can convince Lewis and Petty to come back and somehow snag Watford, most of you will forgive and forget by the time football starts.

BTW: Anybody has a new slogan? “Buckle Up” just didn’t mesh well with me

Well, maybe they need to take a peek at their local news :)

Re: Alabama Set to Hire Nate Oats From Buffalo

His pre-Kentucky presser may give some insight into the type of candor and attitude he's going to bring to the program. Big takeaway is, I hear a lot less "coach speak":

Ok I’ll give it to him, he’s got personality...

Re: Alabama Set to Hire Nate Oats From Buffalo

If they want to go let them go. I'd just as soon he start from scratch if need be.

I agree 110%.... If Petty, Ingram, Lewis and Giddens want to go, let them go. We want players committed to Alabama. Hall alluded to players not buying in earlier this year. Each player needs to look in the mirror and if they are not committed to Alabama 110%, they need to go. I don’t care if we have 0 scholarship players and go 0-32 next year. I like the Oats hire and will give him at least 3 years before I am worried....

Re: Alabama Set to Hire Nate Oats From Buffalo

Some moron hired a 73-59 coach from Army. I mean really? He had only 1 20 win season and only 5 years coaching experience. Then again, it worked out pretty well for Duke.

I say ROLL TIDE and I'll supports Coach Oats 100%!!!
