I don't totally understand how reads work or shifts in the defense change how you make your choices as a QB.

Suffice it to say that Hurts is the worst starting qb of the Saban era at those things.

I wouldn't quite say that.
he did lot of good things last year. I want to encourage everyone to be patient and let the competition unfolds in the fall camp before we can form opinion. I still think Hurts will improve a lot under the new QB coach and we'll see how that goes.

Jalen does some things good, or at least, he's a good running qb, but I was specifically replying to the poster's comment about reading the defense. Jalen has never been good at it. Moreover, and no offense intended, but Hurts hasn't improved much in 2 years, and he had the same qb coach and offensive coordinator last year as Tua had. If the new qb coach is good for Jalen, I guess it's reasonable to assume that it will be relatively as good for Tua. I think it's a moot point anyway, assuming that Tagovailoa is the starting qb, because if we take Hurts' dad at his word, Jalen will transfer if he isn't the starter.

My comment was meant as this board blowing up if Tua is not named the starter and what will TF posters have to say about CNS? Not implying anything just posing a possibility.

How anyone could actually boo a young man who has played very well at times or a coach who is by far the best in the business is beyond me. I mean what does that say, "Hey, Saban, thanks for all of the championships and great teams over the last ten years, but we are going to boo you now because you must be crazy since we fans can clearly see who the best QB is with all of our vast knowledge of the game." Hahahaha, I can see something like that causing him to say see you chumps later, and thanks for making me a richer man.

I think it depends on a few things. It depends on WHEN Jalen is starting. If he starts the first game or even the first 2 games I wouldn't be surprised or outraged. If he's still starting by LSU and we start to struggle then I think a fair few people on here, myself included, would be voicing our displeasure. Nick Saban is debatably the greatest football coach of all time - but that doesn't mean he's perfect. He's not above reproach.

WE'd still win most of our games this year and even have a shot at an SECC and a NC - which is the craziest thing about this whole ordeal. So I think there would be kickback - but I think would be tempered by the fact that we would still be winning nearly every game - maybe all of them.

In the unlikely event that occurs, I'd say that there would have to be a lot we were unaware of in. While I think Tua should be the starter, that doesn't make him immune to every responsibility he might have. If for some reason he fails to live up to those, then yes Hurts could be the starter. But that's basically the only scenario in which I see that happening.

I would never boo Jalen or any other player for the Tide (and honestly, not any opposing players either...these are kids). I wouldn't boo the coaches, staff, or anyone else. But I will say this: I am not sure I could watch another season of what I saw last year.

Edit: Obviously I'm be sarcastic, but come on. We went through the Dubose and Shula eras at Alabama. We went through plenty of mediocre QB play to. Alabama can and has done far worse, overall and at the position. I also don't care what Alabama football looks like, as long as they keep winning championships.

That is kind of what I meant. Painful to see, especially in light of what we know Tua could do. There were many times I asked last year "We have the best coach and recruiter in all of football. Why can't we put a QB who can throw on the field?"
