I feel that I was pointing out that your “if you want to believe” logic also applies to exactly what you said.

Back in the day before garage door openers, the pull ropes used to close the doors usually had a big knot or a loop on the end for a handle.
That said, this is the first loop I've seen that was done with a hangman's noose.
