planning on doing the RV-thing in a couple of weeks. my schedule calls for two nights at lurleen wallace sp; two nights at oak mountain sp; two nights at joe wheeler sp.
planning on playing golf at oak mtn. and joe wheeler.

i've been to oak mtn. several times. what about the other two?

I can help you with a couple of them. Lurleen is real nice. I'm a tent camper so I look at things like bath houses. Lurleen has clean ones as do most of AL State parks. Good fishing and there are boat rentals. I've only driven through Joe Wheeler, but I was impressed. It looked very nice.

I would also reccomend the state park in Eufala, Lakeside, I believe, and DeSoto in Ft Payne. I've been to both several times and loved them both. Can you tell I'm a state park fan? LOL

Guntersville is nice as well. I've been through the campgrounds many times connecting hikes together. The campsites are right on the water. Canadian Geese wander right through camp.

I know this isn't near to where you are going, but for anyone else going to Gulf Shores, they were burning a lot of the underbrush in teh park to help clean up from the hurricane. There were people camping in there when I drove through last Wednesday, but it sure was smokey!

play the new RTJ course in the Shoals....

While you're in the NW Alabama area, you ought to play the new "Fighting Joe" Robert Trent Jones course in the Shoals. It's on the bluff overlooking the Tenn. River. Just named by Golf Magazine as one of the top 10 new public courses in America.
