The Tide scored four in the first, but the Tigers chipped away and eventually gained the advantage

AUBURN, AL –
Alabama baseball suffered a 6-4 loss to 20th-ranked Auburn on Saturday afternoon at Plainsman Park. The Tigers clinched the series with the win in game two, while the Crimson Tide moves to 27-24 overall and 10-16 in Southeastern Conference play.

Alabama jumped out front early with a four-run first inning and held Auburn scoreless until the fourth. The Tigers plated one in that fourth, added two in the fifth and crossed one in the sixth to tie things up. A two-run seventh put Auburn in front, 6-4, for what was the eventual final.

Jacob McNairy provided Alabama with another solid start on Saturday. The senior allowed four runs (three earned) on nine hits with one strikeout in his 6.0 innings of work before turning it over to the bullpen with the game tied. Dylan Ray (1-4) suffered the loss on Saturday with Auburn reliever Carson Swilling (3-2) picking up the win. Chase Allsup notched his second save of the season thanks to 2.0 scoreless frames to end the ballgame.

From Head Coach Brad Bohannon
"We did a great job of coming out hot in the first inning. We got that big single from (Dominic) Tamez, and then the big homer with people on base; (William Hamiter) did that with the three-run homer for us. It can feel like we lost the game in the middle or late because we gave up runs in four straight innings, but really we gave away too many at-bats after the first inning and I think that's where we lost the ballgame today."

How It Happened
  • T1 | With two on and one down, Dominic Tamez singled past the AU shortstop to get the Tide on the board. William Hamiter followed, sending a ball over the wall in right for a three-run home run. (4-0, Alabama)
  • B4 | A solo home run by Bobby Pierce got Auburn on the board. (4-1, Alabama)
  • B5 | An error and a single to center helped the Tigers add a pair (4-3, Alabama)
  • B6 | The Tigers evened things up at four apiece thanks to an RBI-single. (4-4)
  • B7 | A two-out single and stolen base put a man in scoring position for AU. Another single through the right side plated the go-ahead run. The Tigers then added one more one batter later on a wild pitch. (6-4, Auburn)
Postgame Notes
  • Caden Rose got aboard in today's contest and has now reached base safely in his last 11 games dating back to April 25 against Georgia.
Alabama and Auburn will meet for game three of the series on Sunday at Plainsman Park. The Crimson Tide will look to sophomore left-hander Grayson Hitt for the start while the Tigers counter with sophomore Joseph Gonzalez, a righty. The series finale is scheduled for a 3 p.m. CT first pitch on SEC Network.
