What exactly is Tide Pride, and how does it work? I have some friends that live in Ttown and I asked them the other day if they had Tide Pride, and they just looked at me, laughed and said no. Like it's near impossible to get or something. Why?

Because for the normal working stiff, it is. You have to be able to donate big bucks to the University every year to become part of that privileged few. Even then, you have to get in line - a very long line.
If you are the normal fan, and have limited resources, you have little to no chance of ever becoming a member of "Tide Pride".

Tide Pride is simply the name of the system UA uses to distribute football tickets to the public. It's not true that you have to be rich to be a Tide Pride member. There are "club" levels that determine the amount of the donation that you have to make each year in order to buy seats in that club. It's as little as $75 per seat per year for the Extra Point Club, all the way up to $2000 per seat per year for the new South Zone Club. It's true that there's a long waiting list right now, but that's simple supply and demand. About 5 years ago you could get tickets in any club level just by paying the fee.

JD is right. Our TidePride contribution is $80 per seat. So I dish out $320 for the right to buy tickets. I pay more for RV parking than I do for TidePride. Now the waiting list is very long but that's a product of success.

Thanks JD for your post. I joined Tide Pride when coach Shula was here and was actually able to walk in the stadium during some construction upgrades and choose my seats. I at that time paid $75.00 which has not gone to $80.00 per seat, I now pay $320.00 a year for the opportunity to purchase 4 tickets per home game at face value to enjoy the most beautiful stadium in the country and to watch the best team in the country play. I call that a pretty sweet deal which 5 or 6 years ago anyone could have had. RTR

I'm a normal working stiff and I am a member of tide pride.
I donate the whopping sum of $260 a year.
Been in Tide Pride for 18 years... got wait listed for one year even back then.
Funny thing though.... 1997,1998 their were season ticket packages available but since we were losing seems no one wanted to pay the money to get in and some even got out.
Again in 2001,2002,2003,2004 & 2006 there were plenty of openings in all levels of tide pride because a lot of fair weather fans did not want to pay to see Alabama Lose.... and guess what, now that Alabama is winning, a lot of the old guard that got out want back in.
The only fans i feel sorry for are the ones that were not old enough to join tide pride back when it was full of open spots .

So you have to pay that $ every year you are on the waiting list? And then when the tickets become available you have to keep paying the fee and then buy the tickets on top?

No.. you don't pay while on the waiting list.
Yes you pay tide pride dues for each seat you have and then you get to buy a season ticket package for each seat.
Tide Pride dues are tax deductible (% of total amount) and not all clubs have the same dues per seat.
I am in the century club and i pay $130 each for my 2 seats.
18 years ago I paid $100 each for my 2 seats.

I joined Tide Pride the first year it became available at the Crimson Tide Club level and have had 4 seats on the 50 yard line 30 rows up all these years. It now costs $2400 a year plus the cost of the tickets. Some years, I would sell a few of the games on Ebay and recoup most of the annual costs :p. My 2 sons have now taken over the costs and have control of the seats with the understanding that I can come to a game or two each year (See you at Penn State next week) :BigA:

i'm glad you guys have had a better experience dealing with TP than my brother and i did. we were forced out 15 yrs ago after belonging for 4yrs. they won't get any of our money again.

they would not allow us to stay at the level we were in. TP tried to force us to move up 2 levels, plus the increase in ticket prices at the time. move up or get out. we got out and i won't go back.

If they reclassified your section to a higher Tide Pride club did they offer to let you stay in your club level but move your seats in the stadium to the remaining sections of that club level?
I cant remember the year but i Remember when they came in and reclassified some of the sections.

no, they made us move club level and move our seats. we had no problem changing seats but to force us to jump up 2 club levels. they did allow us to buy 6 tickets instead of 2. TP just didn't want to get it, the big price difference was the problem.

Dont for get to get your April 1st installment paid. I just renewed my season tickets on line. Why is there an application fee? $15 is the application fee. 2 tickets $785.

At its core, Tide Pride is all about money. Other things factor in, but not nearly as much as $$$ donations. They drive everything else.

You don't have to contribute money while you're in line. But if you do, it shortens your wait. If you want to shell out enough, you can even buy your way to the front of the line.

How long you're in line and how much it costs to leapfrog some or all of the people in front of you depends on the club level.

Once you're in, you pay the annual fee that your club level requires. As already mentioned, that fee ranges from $75 to $2,000 or more per seat, per year. The higher the fee, the better your seats.

Then you have to pay for season tickets on top of that. You can't pick and choose games. You have to buy the whole season package. If you don't, you're out of the Tide Pride program. Of course, you can sell some or all of your tickets to help defray costs, but you're on your own for that.

BTW -- They can raise the fee for your club level. There is no grandfathering. You pay the new (higher) fee or your get out. Good news is that they don't do that much. However, it's been a while since the last hike, so we're probably due for another one here pretty soon.

I think was 3 or 4 seasons ago. As I remember it, we were told of the restructuring and given a choice to either stay put and pay the new donation rate or be relocated to a lower donation level as available. I chose to stay put as the new donation rate was not a huge burden for me at that time.

This year, money is particularly tight, and I was going to give up the tickets altogether, but my fellow Tide fans convinced me I could sub-lease them (selling the whole kit-n-kaboodle) without losing my Tide Pride membership. That worked out great and has enabled me to stay in Tide Pride this season. Hopefully next year things will be a bit more financially happy around here and I won't have to do this again, but at least I know it's easy to do if need be.

If it makes ya'll feel any better, same thing has been going on the past few years in Columbia. Seat licenses added on to cost of tickets plus cost of scholarship donations. You can still get seats for cheap, but they are in the corners of the upper decks. To get decent seat cost a lot of $$. We decided to keep our current seats and drop the number we get (we don't all go to every game anyway).

I hate the direction college football is heading in terms of pricing out the common man, especially during a recession. If school's are not careful they will lose fans (it is already happening in SC at clemson & USC, SC being a state hit very hard by the recession).
