The worst spot seems to be the Lauterbrunnen valley in Switzerland from fliers making "terrain mistakes." It's sometimes called the "Valley of Death" by that group. IDK why. I've been there a number of times and it's a standard glaciated valley, with vertical walls and numerous waterfalls (hence the name)...

OK. I looked and it could be distilled into one word - "stupidity." Flying too close to the walls, not pulling the ripcord in time, fatigue from too many jumps in a day, etc. Also, it has Alpine weather too. Some 15-20K jumps are made a year, so that's a factor...

there is a subset of these dudes that do "proximity" flying instead of just jumping and gliding through the valley. the guy in the video i posted is doing that. "threading the needle" on notches and between trees, etc. they are usually only a few feet from the features they are near and there is no margin for error. potter and his buddy died trying to go through a notch in yosemite.

I'm not familiar with him, but Yosemite is also a glaciated valley, although broader than Lauterbrunnen. I'm not in a position to criticize. I was still doing the really risky stuff kayaking up until I was 50, when I figured out it wasn't fair to my wife and family...

I suppose the adage about crop duster pilots applies with wingsuiters:

A federal holiday since 1971, the roots of Memorial Day go back over a century prior, to the end of the Civil War.After the burial of many Union and Confederate soldiers, "decoration day" rituals began to spring up, which included placing fresh flowers on soldiers' graves.

One of the earliest known celebrations took place in Charleston, South Carolina on May 1, 1865, when the city's freed Black residents organized a proper burial for hundreds of Union soldiers who had died in a Confederate prison, followed by a parade to honor their memory.

In the spring of 1868, General John Logan officially designated May 30th "for the purpose of strewing flowers or otherwise decorating the graves of comrades who died in the defense of their country," and Memorial Day as we know it today was established.

Many rural AL communities recognize a "decoration day" which is entirely divorced from the war or the national holiday. It usually is observed in the summer. I've attended many when I was young. Back then, families tended to be buried in neighborhood cemeteries, no longer the case, especially if they're cremated...
