Anyone Know Anything About Evansville, Indiana?

Well, I knew that much, ha ha.


From what I'm reading, it seems okay but has an inordinately high crime rate. Of course, I lived in Little Rock when it was Murdertown back in the mid-90s, and I never had a problem because most of the time the high crime is isolated in a particular area of the city, and you avoid it by not going there. It appears to be kind of like where I'm living now except a higher crime rate (the COL analysis shows it to be slightly more expensive but any pay increase I'm willing to move to accept will drastically offset that tiny fraction).

I visited there in 1970? for the DII basketball championship. Philadelphia Textile vs somebody. It was dark and we didn't stay long. There is a college in Evansville. You're welcome

I think there are a couple of casinos in Evansville. You could take your pay increase and head over to the casinos and double or even triple your money.

This reminds me of RFK in a speech saying that he had told LBJ he was going to run for President and asked him if he had any advice. LBJ said, "Go west young man," to which RFK said, "But I was in California at the time......"

I kinda think maybe the same thing possibly perhaps.

Actually, I'm in Denton, which is funny because they still talk about them there Von Erich wrassling boys from back in the 80s. Working in the hospital......let's just say it has exposed me to an entirely different side of the sports scene in Dallas......that's all I can say here.

You might start pulling for the hometown basketball team, Evansville. The Missouri Valley Conference. I used to go to Creighton games in Omaha back when they were still in the MO Valley conference.

I’ve been to Evansville a couple of times. Not a ton to do there, but it’s in a pretty good spot. You’re not far off from Louisville and only a couple of hours from Indianapolis and St. Louis. Yes it has some rough areas, but there are a lot of good, middle-class areas as well. Geographically it’s actually around the prettiest area of the state. Indiana doesn’t exactly have a breathtaking topography, but the southern part of the state is actually quite gorgeous, especially in the fall.

The winters will be harsher than you are used to. You’ll see a bit of snow, but not a ton. I will say the more southern part of the state tends to get a fair bit of ice. It’ll definitely be cooler in the summer than you are used to in Dallas, although it can still gets pretty humid.

As far as feel, anything south of Columbus IN feels more like Kentucky than Indiana. Meaning the people and the accents will feel more southern than Midwestern. Good folks down there for the most part.

Fun fact you already know if you’ve done any research at all, but the 3rd oldest in use baseball stadium in the country is in Evansville. Bosse Field which was opened right after Fenway and Wrigley. A good bit of “A League of Their Own” was filmed there.
