Army Black Knights accept invitation to Independence Bowl

Army has accepted an invitation to the Radiance Technologies Independence Bowl, becoming the first team to secure a bowl bid this season, according to a news release Saturday. It will be the Black Knights' first trip to Shreveport, Louisiana, since 1996. Army will face an opponent from the Pac-12, which begins its truncated season on Nov. 7.

Army, which improved to 6-1 with a 49-3 win over Mercer on Saturday, became the first college football team to accept a bowl invite in 2020, as they are headed to the Independence Bowl.

They nearly beat Tater Tot and Auburn in that 1996 Independence Bowl.

Of course, they nearly beat Derrick Thomas and Alabama in the 1988 Sun Bowl.

The amazing thing is Army has 7 games in the books - with six wins.

Good for their program. They’re also getting to host the Army/Navy game this year. Banner year for them. I can see an Army/BYU matchup in this game. I would watch. I do wonder, if they continue winning, if they might’ve done better? I doubt it.
