I guess so. As great as JC could be I just do not have much confidence that USCe will shake the same stigma that Clemson has and that's a lot of preseason hype but more than likey will lay an egg.

Sounds like you think he will be the next DeQuan Bowers.

Clowney's mom does a short interview at the above link. Sounds like she was pretty high on Clemson but did make this comment about Alabama:

What initially attracted him to Alabama?
“I think Alabama has all those national championships and he likes to win. He likes the championships. But I said, ‘Maybe you can get to South Carolina and help them get a national championship.’ You have to do what’s best for you.”

I am glad it is all over. I enjoyed my time on this forum posting about Clowney but would prefer for Saban to stay out of the state of South Carolina in 2012.

One thing I will say with complete certainty (in wake of the NY Times report) without a doubt, Jadeveon Clowney will qualify and be on the football field for South Carolina in the 2011 season helping them defend the SEC-E and make it back to ATL.

No surprise or disappointment here, especially since he may not qualify. Question - what makes the in-state pressure so strong in SC? Im lost on why it is extra strong there.

EveryThingGreen - CNS will be back in SC in 2012 for round 3 . We got Fulton, you got JC, and we'll be battling this coming year for someone again. I really like Spurrier, so I am glad he went to USCe and I hope he qualifies.

Seeing that we do not play y'all in 2011 during the regular season, I hope you're right. I'd love to play y'all in the SECCG. It seems the only team we get to play is Florida. And don't count on Saban staying out of Carolina. LOL!!! If there's someone their he likes he'll be there.

He will more than likely go to Prep School or Juco. I don't know if South Carolina can get him qualified even if they wanted to with the NCAA crap going on there. I know it will raise a red flag if he gets qualified. He has great athletic ability but doesn't do much in the classroom.

Because what is being reported publicly about his academics is not actually fact. JC is well on his way to having no issues with qualifying as long as he stays on track this last semester of school. Its a shame that he even had to answer that question in his press conference today with the media but the NY Times article was a low blow and not sure how its even legal for them to openly discuss a kids grades like that.

How is it legal for the NYT to openly discuss grades in the United States of America with 1st Amendment rights? Im not sure he will qualify, and neither are all of the Gamecock fans who are celebrating right now. Unless you attend his high school, have his transcript, or are willing to break NCAA rules to get a kid into college, no one knows. It is a shame that the kid is in this position, he should have been responsible and buckled down on his studies.

Yes, unfortunately I believe in that pesky thing called "Freedom of Press." My most sincere apologies for that. The NYT writer never discussed specifics of his transcript himself, the Hargrave coach did. What's wrong with you? Can't read the article?

“I don’t see no big deal like everybody else,” he said later. “They’d say, ‘He’s the king of all of football.’ The guy ain’t nothing but 5-5. He’s a short guy. Everybody’s going crazy on Nick Saban.”

“Nick Saban’s going to take over and talk,” Clowney said. “He talked the whole time he was there. I was dozing off. He can talk. A lot. He talked for a whole straight hour.”

Maybe he shouldn't have answered these two questions.
“If Alabama ran a 4-3, I would have committed a long time ago,” Clowney said during a Jan. 24 interview at his grandparents’ house. “They run a 3-4 and I’m thinking, ‘They expect me to stay 265, 270 (pounds).’ If I get up to 280, 290, I’d be playing defensive tackle up there. That ain’t my position. I like playing on the end and rushing the passer.”

When he's drafted by a 3-4 team in the NFL, he'll understand what he missed.

After a tour of the Paul W. Bryant Museum and dinner, Crimson Tide players, including some freshmen who had enrolled that semester, took Clowney to The Brick House, a Tuscaloosa restaurant, where they drew plenty of attention from coeds.

“They were all over us,” Clowney said. “We were new faces, I guess. They was lovin’ us. We just had a ball that night.”

“You be looking for the big screen like everybody else, but they’ve got four,” he said.

That night, Clowney attended a dinner in one of Bryant-Denny Stadium’s suites. He then went out again with Crimson Tide players, while his mother went to Saban’s lakefront house with the parents of other recruits.

There, they celebrated the birthday of Saban’s wife, Terry, and played games. Josenna Clowney partnered with Willie Carl Martin, Alabama’s director of player development, and the two beat Terry Saban and another recruit’s mother in a card game.

During the entire visit, whenever Josenna Clowney got out of a chair, the coaches were there to help her up. Whenever she needed something to drink, they got it for her.

“They’d say, ‘We’re just being gentlemen,’” she said. “They were so nice. All the women were, too.”

At least he enjoyed the visit and loved the facilities.

There are specific regulations about kids and academic records. I don't know the specifics but it is kind of like HIPPA in healthcare. Colleges can no longer send grades or academic info to the parents residence unless the student has signed a release. The student has elevated privacy rights regarding academics.

Interesting article. I do have to think that the coaching staff would have thoroughly explained what position they would play him (Jack), but it almost sounds like he was repeating what our rivals might say about how he would be used down here.

I'm also pretty sure Saban can talk a recruit's ear off. Doesn't really bother me that he said as much.

I believe you're thinking of FERPA. However, if I understand it correctly, it would apply to the school and not the press. So, if the press reported something FERPA-protected, the violation would rest with the school allowing it to get to the press, not with the press reporting it. That being said, I don't know jack about education law.
