I had a friend from MA get caught in it. His story is pretty chilling. Took them 7 hours of detouring around blocked back roads to finally get back on the interstate...

We were supposed be heading back from Florida yesterday. Thankfully we didn’t, because we would’ve been heading up 75 during this...

Football rivalries aside, I hope Lee County and all those affected are getting the help from their neighbors that is needed to assist them in overcoming any losses.

i just saw where three of the dead were children, 6, 9 and 10. i can't imagine how horrible that must be for their families.

Reading that they're saying 170mph winds, which is a solid cat3 storm. Incredible damage...

Thoughts and prayers to all affected.

On the radio it was reported the tornado path was 1 mile wide and 24 miles long!

Aftermath: Alabama’s tornado dead range in age from 6 to 89

The youngest victim was 6, the oldest 89. Relatives said one extended family lost 10 members.

The 23 people killed in the nation’s deadliest tornado in nearly six years came into focus Tuesday with the release of their names by the coroner.

They included 6-year-old Armando Hernandez Jr., known as “AJ,” torn from his father’s arms two days after singing in his first-grade class musical; 10-year-old Taylor Thornton, who loved horses and was visiting a friend’s home when the twister struck; and Jimmy Lee Jones, 89, who perished along with his wife of six decades, Mary Louise, and one of their sons.

“Just keep those families in your prayers,” Lee County Coroner Bill Harris said, two days after the disaster.

Two cousins have a hard time counting all the relatives they lost.

Cordarrly Jones and Demetria Jones say their grandparents, an uncle and seven cousins are all gone. They are stunned by the loss and worried about still more family members who are hospitalized
. They say just about everyone in the area was related.

that is just so heartbreaking.
I've followed it some this week (not as much as I might normally), but that article really got me.

WSFA's morning news reporter has been there everyday this week. She said again today there are still areas the media is not allowed to see because the damage is so bad. Officials are working to search the area and make sure it is safe for people to see before letting them around.

A couple of corporations have committed to pay most, if not all, of the funeral costs for the 23 victims.
