Atlanta Braves 2026 season discussion. (1st half)

On a 108-win pace right now.
Not likely to get it.

Franchise record is 106 in 1998, the club that belly flopped in the NLCS against the Padres.
Probably the best five-man rotation in Braves history (Maddux, Glavine, Smoltz, Neagle, Millwood - all won 16 or more starts; closer was Kerry Lightenberg (30 saves, 4 blown; the other relievers combined to blow 21 saves).

Nobody outside of Atlanta even remembers this team because that was the year. The Yankees won 114 games plus the great home run chase. Team had five Hall of Famers and a legit candidate in Dennis Martinez.

I mainly remember the SP and Offense from that season but I swear I didn’t even remotely remember El Presidente being on that Braves team.

I so didn’t remember it that the way it was worded I thought you meant he was on the Yankees and I didn’t remember that either…lol

Yes, voice recognition makes some edits that I never tell it to make.

Only the dodgers have a better record than us. and we aren't even at full strength

Plus they are an overpaid All-Star team basically.

Their payroll would make the Joe Torre Yankees blush.

I can’t even begin to describe how bad I hate the Dodgers.

I’d love the Braves to be the team to knock them off their high horse.

I don’t think the Dodgers win it this year. They really were lucky to win it these past 2 years. They are the most talented team in baseball but by far but I don’t trust their pitching.

The Braves in a few weeks will probably take two back to back series losses on the road to Seattle and LAD but if the Braves pitching is this dominant 1-5 without Strider then maybe a big add at the deadline for pitching and another utility hitter could make us hell in October.

A long way to go but you can see a difference in mentality from Snitker to Weiss. We will eventually slow down but I like what we got so far.

Probably because he wasn't a starting pitcher (and he wasn't very good, either).

He was 44 years old, appeared in 53 games, and he made only five starts for Smoltz, who was out from May 24 through June 19 with an inflamed elbow. He had also had elbow surgery in the offseason (and he would miss the entire 2000 season).

Smoltz - despite being hurt in 1998 -was 17-3 with a 2.90 ERA. Of course, he got probably the most run support he ever got in his career that year, too. (Smoltz was often victimized by shoddy offense - he was probably a better career pitcher than Glavine, but for some reason Tom got all the runs).

The Braves were second in the NL in home runs in 1998 - and St Louis only led by eight because of some guy named McGwire.

Irvin hit Acuna twice. I don't think bad intent either time but I don't know if there's beef. New young Manager for Nats yanked Irvin immediately after the second plunk. Don't know if that'll keep Weiss from knocking down their next player or not.
