Auburn HC Freeze has cancer

Being reported that Auburn HC Hugh Freeze has prostate cancer, doctor's have said they caught it early so shouldn't be any problems and he can resume coaching duties, No matter what we think of people this is serious and prayers go out to Coach Freeze and his family

There was some talk of it on this site during the season. A few posters said he looked disinterested and tired. Seems like this was what was actually going on

My brother was 65, working shop foreman for a large crane outfit in Birmingham. While Off for Thanksgiving , after dinner He had a seizure. In the Emergency room, they couldn’t determine the cause so they sent him for an MRI on his brain. It showed brain cancer, further testing showed Pancreas, Kidney, Liver , Lung . January he died less than two months after diagnosis.

In March 2024, during a routine exam his A1C was high, so they prescribed Ozempic . He complained about nausea and some vomiting , but his Dr told him it was a side effect of the medicine.

Please, get yourself checked. You know your body, if something is wrong, question the Doctor. Don’t just take their word because mistakes get made. They are not in your skin, and don’t know exactly how you feel . Get yourself checked if you don’t feel right.

I don't care for him or for Auburn, but this is bigger than a rivalry. I HATE cancer. My mom died of it too young. My husband had prostrate cancer a few years ago but is so far cancer free after having it removed.

Hope Freeze recovers and that he feels better overall. Still want to beat Auburn bad in every sport, especially football and basketball.

People can live a long relatively normal life with prostate cancer. It's pretty slow and a lot of times they will recommend just watching it over treating it

From my retired hematologist/oncologist sister: If you are over 60 and are otherwise healthy, plus it is slow growing, just get some radiation and watch it. Outcomes are as good as surgery and much less complicated.

There are several different types of prostate cancer. Treatment depends on type, aggressiveness, and age and health of patient. I’ve known men in their 70’s and 80’s with very slow progressing prostate cancer where they simply monitored it. As they say, old age would take them before the cancer would. Additionally, the diminished quality of life from treatment treating someone at an advanced age also must be considered.

Coach Freeze has both age (55) and a slow progressing form in his favor. He should respond/do well with treatment.

But with all cancers, early diagnosis and treatment almost always lead to better outcomes. Screenings are important.

My uncle lived unto his late 80s with prostate cancer and what eventually killed him was kidney failure, not the cancer.
I hope Coach Freeze has a long and fruitful life despite this diagnosis and either is cured or he manages it so well it does not impact his life at all.

I've heard that most men die with prostate cancer, but not from prostate cancer.
