Not by choice.. Harsin isn't and never has been a strong recruiter but the "disturbance" (let's call it that) this winter caused them some bug problems in this class.

It will impossible for them to finish outside of the top 40 or 50 I think ( they are still a major sec program and that would take hard work to finish that poorly). They do have some good a top tier db coach on staff.

They did rely a lot on the JUCO ranks a year ago and will likely have to do that and use the portal to make up for deficiencies with young guys.

Just noticed Auburn is number 78 on 247 with only 4 recruits, although all 4 are 4 star. Are they selling out for the transfer portal?
If indeed they are going to lean on the portal and maybe JUCO, that`s not a way to build or maintain a program`s foundation. That`s how you plug holes. JMHO of course.

I think Harsin is a good coach but unless he can figure out SEC recruiting, well, to loosely paraphrase an old saying, go back west young man.

As good a coach as I believe Harsin is, he is a bad fit for any SEC team due to his lack of recruiting prowess. This will be his last year on the plains due to that problem unfortunately.

Years ago, way before the portal, I had a chance to talk with a well-regarded Alabama assistant. Among several things, he said that he was really leery of recruiting JUCO players. It was because, as he said, “There’s a reason they had to go to junior college, and it’s almost always something that doesn’t indicate well for college.”

I've heard that since 1970 -- and like most generalizations it is usually but not always true. Much of the time the athlete either did not do the academic work in HS or did not have an environment which enabled him to do so. Some of the time it was about physical maturity and development...I have seen JC's who were overlooked, though that was more in the past than now.

No doubt about it, but when the boss in the straw hat says drive on over to Nowhere, MS and get that stud…

Really like CNS philosophy for JUCO/Portal guys
