Auburn wrap-up: Bama saves some of its best for last
by Jess Nicholas, TideFans.com Editor-In-Chief

It might not have been immediately evident to a casual passerby who saw the 28-14 score roll across his sports ticker, but for anyone in Bryant-Denny Stadium on Saturday evening, the difference between the 2024 Alabama and Auburn programs looked as wide as the mouth of Mobile Bay.

Alabama lost the turnover battle 4-2 – including 3-0 in the first half – yet it never felt like Auburn threatened the Crimson Tide seriously on Saturday, especially after Alabama forced Auburn to blink at the 3-yard line just before halftime, take a delay-of-game penalty and instead kick a short field goal to cut the score to 14-6. Coming out in the second half, Alabama put together two quality drives, scored two touchdowns and basically ended any hopes Auburn had at pulling the upset, even though Bama still gave Auburn another turnover to work with in the fourth quarter.

Great analysis, Jess. One of the best descriptions of the year for one of the best performances of the year.
One thing for sure. If Alabama is in the playoffs, more people will be watching than will watch if Alabama is not there. I know that is true here in North Carolina where there a lot of Alabama fans. My guess the same is true across the country.

Nice write-up, Jess. Thanks
Great win... wish we would not have had the turnovers and the Ryan Williams dropped TD so the score would look more lopsided but I will take a 14 point win against Auburn any day!

I have a mild disagreement, with the OL comment - the inside runs did not look that great to me. Perhaps I should go back and look at the stats. There seemed to be an awful lot of first down runs for 2 yards.

Nice five game winning streak, although two were very fortuitous. Auburn as has more than that against Alabama. During the middle of a nine game winning streak, Bryant ask God when would Alabama beat Notre Dame and response was "remember coach practice practice practice." Auburn coach ask God when Auburn would beat Alabama and the response was "never as long as I am the head man up here."
