Cormac McCarthy Dies

The Road
No Country for Old Men
Blood Meridian
The first two made great movies, the third was unfilmable due to carnage taking place in the old west, mid 19th century.
And McCarthy always made me feel I was there, in the mud or the blood, and feeling things I didn’t know I could. RIP

I've read a couple of his books recently (part way through All The Pretty Horses). Blood Merdian was a bit irritating to read due to the style of English spoken and too many parts written in Spanish. I had to constantly use the translate feature on my ap since I don't understand Spanish.

All The Pretty Horses has a few conversations written in Spanish. I have to use translator on my reading ap for these as well. I thought maybe I could just skip over these but found that some of the information was important to the story, or at least important for the flow of the story at the time. I am enjoying this book a little more than Blood Merdian.

When I read McCarthy, it often feels like I'm being grabbed by the throat. Just a powerful, emotion-inducing writer. On gift-giving occasions, I rarely give books. Gift cards for books, yes. I often talk about recommendations, but I usually feel awkward "forcing" a book on someone. Everyone has their own preferences. McCarthy is one of the few exceptions. It's the rare times I tell someone, "You have to read this ..."

ever read John Darnelle? I've only read Wolf in White Van but it gut punched me like The Road did

So I've heard of him but never read him...went to our Library (online) and all of the print books are checked out. Waiting list for the audio books as well. I have been able to check out The Passenger ebook -- will begin reading today. Looks like I have my summer reading set up.
