Apparently it's true that no press is bad press. I mean, when the last thing your program was in the news for was getting in an on-the-field brawl, you'd think that would be turning people off, not on.

How does Miami recruit so well?

They have very poor facilities. They play their home games at a dump. It's not all South Beach in Miami. Many parts of the city are run down and almost like a third world country. What gives?

Dont Miami also have a small window of opportunity?? they "as well" fired their coach. It's true that they hired an assistant but how come coach change was not a factor in their recruiting but ours was...??

You left off one thing. They draw at least 20-30K fans for those home games! I can't see why anyone would wanna be at "the U" right now.

Maybe it is all the kids that go pro from the U because like it or not a lot they have had some a lot of great NFL players come out of the U. I would prefer that the place just cease to exist but maybe that just me.

The "U" puts there players in the NFL and the "alumni" of players is as dedicated to the "U" as any...almost like a FRAT, --there "homies" for life. Sunny skies, beeches, pro team right there in the "Big City", Im sure pretty girls....its not that hard to see!!!

Bama will be fine........RTR

I agree about the pipeline to the NFL, but it's obvious from your post that you've never been there. It is, for lack of a better word, a DUMP! Other than the South Beach area, and areas far north of Miami, the whole area is a ghetto. As far as pretty girls, down there they call them "visitors" or "vacationers". A passpost should be required once you get south of Naples to the west and Lauderdale to the east. If you want to go from one place to another, you better have some change in your car, because you have to either take a toll road, of wait in miserable traffic. The U is literally right on Highway 1, and it is just not an attractive place. And being from LA, I can honestly say that the fishing is WAAAAY overrated, too.

I don't want to bring too many racial connotations into this ... but we have to remember that a lot of these kids are not as turned off by inner city environs as some of us white suburbanites are.

That being said, I still don't understand the lure of Miami and a half-filled Orange Bowl.

Miami has the football aspect going for them. They've won some national championships in recent memory, they've had a good number of very good football players that are among the top players in the NFL now. Those players may not necessarily get the headlines like Peyton Manning or Tom Brady, but they're still doing very well in the NFL and getting mentioned enough. A good example of that is San Francisco 49ers' RB Frank Gore. The guy had so much potential at Miami but was hurt a lot. This past season, he finished #1 in rushing yards in the NFC for an 8-8 team that could've made the playoffs if they'd won a couple more games.

I've been to Miami and it truly is a complete dump. USC isn't in a great place either, but at least they have some nice areas nearby and it's reasonably safe on campus to be able to recruit awesome there. USC and Miami have those NFL connections though, that's why Miami continues to get some players. The players are going there to get ready for the NFL, not necessarily to get a degree and work in the real world.

This is my point also. The place is an absolute dump. No facilities. No stadium. They do not have a long standing football tradition. As you pointed out in one of your previous posts, poor fan support. So many people think Miami is all South Beach and it's not.

I know there is a TON of talent in Florida and Miami, but you would think a lot of the local kids would want to get out of Miami and go to a nicer place.

I just don't understand why Miami recruits so well year in and year out.

The only coach fired at Miami was Coker. The guy they hired was their DC last year and I believe the majority of the staff remained intact. They could continue their recruiting without missing a beat. They didn`t have to develop a new coach/recruit relationship . Us, on the other hand, started from scratch with a clean slate of coaches that didn`t have first contact with any recruits until about 4 weeks ago.

You pinpointed the appeal. They don't generally out-recruit everybody year in and year out. Yet, they put the most players in the league. So, technically, they out-develop their players. This is what Saban did at LSU...then, it snowballed and he started out recruiting everyone as well. I expect the same results at Alabama in the coming years.

Defensively, I can see the lure to Miami as they still put together one of the best Defenses together. Good defensive coaching there. What I don't understand is the offensive guys going to Miami, especially with the hiring of Patrick Nix as the offensive coordinator. He accomplished nothing at Ga Tech so what can he sell them on? He will still have the unimaginative offense that he is known for. I know many Ga Tech fans that practically celebrated when he left.

As for Bailey, one of the things that he wanted was a small town. I thought that this waould definitely rule out Miami for him. Oh Well.

I don't think he ever said small town. He's just from one and his mama wanted the kids to come back to Hog's Hammock when they were done with school.

Bailey fits at Miami scheme wise.

I really hope he doesn't get influenced by the fast life down there. He seems like he has a bright NFL future if he develops.

I know I am just a small town country boy, but why would anyone choose a college, for football or academics, where their life seems to be in constant jeopardy. There is a lot to be said for the college town atmosphere.

Also, if I were recruiting against Miami, you can believe I would have a copy of this article on my person at all times.

He did say that he eliminated a couple of schools because he did not feel comfortable in a big city. There is a thread about Bailey on here somewhere that linked the article where he mentioned this. At the time he was down to Miami, Florida and Bama. I believed that it would eliminate Miami because of his mentioning the fact the he didn't want to be in a big city. I was obviously wrong.
