Loser of tonight's game might get a call.

We might as well accept that CNO is going to be on almost everybody's shortlist. It says something about his coaching chops that he keeps making these lists.

Last year, he supposedly turned down Kentucky and rumors are swirling they aren't happy with Pope.

Hopefully a call from Carolina wouldn't sway him away either!

Should have mentioned Vandy's Coach is on the list too. He probably gets the call first since they got put out first.
Don't be silly. Agents and schools don't let season's and games get in the way of contract negotiations. It will go a little something like this. UNC will reach out to CNO's agent and tell them they are interested in talking with him. He will then let UNC if the feeling's are mutual after talking with CNO.

While I'm sure he'd accept extra money, I don't think Oats is unhappy with his own salary.

I do have reservations about his comfort with the pay-for-play money available for basketball players in Tuscaloosa.
He was not happy with NIL, I believe he talked with Byrne about it. On the outside it seems the talk went well but supposedly losing Holt isn’t sitting well either. Personally think this will be a nerve wracking off season. Could have UNC, Kansas, UK all with changes. I have no doubt he would win an NC with 15M NIL much less the 20M UK spent.

Could you pay a coach more so he could donate it to NIL? I’m sure it’s not allowed but thinking outside the box.

I’m not sure of the best way to increase the BB NIL but I’d borrow from the FB side of our finances if we could/can.

It seems much easier to accurately evaluate talent and keep them for a few years in BB vs FB right now.

We are just flushing massive monies down the toilet on the FB side.

Coach Oats imo would maximize the results much better with an increased budget.

Kentucky will probably give Pope another year with AD Barnhart retiring. If the ax needs to fall, let the new AD handle it along with the new hire.

Pitino at St. Johns and Barnes at UT in addition to Self at Kansas aren’t spring chickens either. McDermott at Creighton just retired at age 61. NIL and the portal are speeding up many retirement plans. Plenty of possible opportunities for movement for a bunch of coaches.

Not to mention the NBA may look at Nate as well.

I know how it works...no need for names.

But, when you get put out of the tournament, that's when coaches think about the future. Not during it.

Agents will work 24/7/365, but coaches are laser-focused until the last loss, especially when they are in post season play.

Oates is on 95% of AD's short list. It means we have a GREAT coach.

With NIL and transfers, I don't think the blue blood schools have as much pull as they once did.

Nate got one thing he wanted: the new practice facility. Hopefully he gets more NIL $$$. At some point, we have to pay the stars. Is Caleb Holt the one to pay big, though???

Fans want a new arena, but I think that's way down on CNO's wish list.

Edit, on changes with blue bloods: Cruiser, from another thread: First time since 1954 that neither Kentucky, Kansas, UCLA or North Carolina are not in the Sweet 16

Names? Really...

Even if you could, wouldn't he be "contributing" that money with after tax dollars? It seems like there would be a more efficient way to move the money around.

You said "Don't be silly."

I understand how the process works with agents.
Simple saying that typically isn't very offensive and wasn't intended to be...

As to the topic at hand, then you understand that the exit of your team from the tourney will have little to no bearing on a school looking for a coach from making contact with that coaches agent and getting a solid idea of if interest is mutual from both sides. If we make a deeper run it isn't going to solidify Oats to staying but will make him that much more marketable to other schools to poach him. ATP we are more than likely looking at restructuring his contract or losing him. My guess is he will also want commitments to more NIL money which is more than a reasonable expectation IMO.

Thanks for the clarification.

On the topic, I get all of that, but what I'm saying is CNO came to Bama thinking we could win BIG here. The longer this year's team stays in the hunt, the more he believes it.

I understand if he wants to explore UNC or another school he can tell his agent to work behind the scenes.

Here's hoping he stays locked in with us and whatever "needs" he has can be met with negotiations with Byrne.

A shortlist for a job that as of this moment is not open.
I think it's just a matter of time for UNC to pull the trigger on Davis.

They cancelled his version of "Hey Coach" radio show last night.

They are probably working out the package for him NOT to coach.

Rest assured, CNO will be on their shortlist. They probably have some bigger names, but he'll get a "call."

Just thinking out loud here, Coach.

Make the SS four years in a row at UNC, and you'll feel the heat of 1000 suns!

Stay at Bama, where you are just as closer to winning it all than all the rebuilding it'll take at UNC, and you are already the "best B-ball Coach in Bama history!"
