Bama Coordinator Search Thread

I don't really want Freeze. I just think it would be comical because of Ole Miss's reaction.

Still, if we are comfortable that Freeze wouldn't step out of line regarding recruiting rules, then I'm a little perplexed at why we are hung up on the other stuff. I think we're being a little naive about some of the guys that have coached here under Nick Saban. Kiffin, for starters, and then the other guy who TIDE-HSV mentioned earlier in the thread who actually coached here twice. At least with Freeze, this behavior is well known at this point, he's been publicly humiliated, and chances are he's doing everything he can to avoid making those mistakes again. He very nearly lost everything (believe he's still married, right?) and did basically lose his career.

All that said, I'll trust Coach Saban's judgment.

Freeze has been absolutely savaged on this very forum for years for being in charge of a filthy, dirty program, despite his constant claims of being a pious, God-fearing Christian. Page after page of posts about the shame of Ole Miss and what a sorry sack he was.

I'm just a little surprised that after just a couple of months how character now matters so little to many of us.
It's not that character doesn't matter to anyone here so much as Saban doesn't care what you think.

I just want the announcement to come soon, no matter who it is. On the bright side, at least I am stuck at home and don't have to minimize my tidefans window when my boss walks by my desk.

You are completely wrong, of course. There is plenty of discussion here about how posters feel about Freeze's character and his bringing that to Bama. Nowhere has anyone argued that Saban cares about how the Bama nation feels.

I just wish we might have more options than just Locksley and Freeze. Maybe there are others.

But if I had to choose between those two...sticking to just football matters...I'll take Freeze every time. I just don't like the resume of Locksley's OC tenures.

If we can't get Freeze...or if CNS's doesn't choose Freeze, I wish we'd go back to square one and start all over. JMO

Well Greg may not sign off on Freeze Hire.

Who has COMPLETE control of FOOTBALL operations/organization? GB or that H C who has 6 NC's?

If I were that HC with 6 NC's and I wanted a particular staff member and GB would NOT approve that hire, there would be a resignation with the NYG's in my immediate future. Let those without sin cast the first stone.

Now, this doesn't mean that I like/respect that F guy.

Let's put aside the merits of us hiring or not hiring Freeze for a moment. If the commissioner doesn't want Freeze coaching the league, even in a way that is permissible following the NCAA decision, then he should formally suspend him or sanction him above and beyond what the NCAA did. That would be far better than arbitrarily blackballing somebody or subjectively picking winner and losers as you go along. I would be concerned about legal liability if someone is selectively interfering with a person's ability to earn a living. There needs to be a defined set of rules in place that apply to all teams in these types of situations...maybe a clearinghouse of approval for recently sanctioned coaches...I don't know.

My guess is that Locks will get the OC spot and Freeze is insurance. This will be similar to the LK and Sark situation if Coach goes that route. I think Tosh will be DC and Golding will work with him. Tosh was a critic himself of his knowledge of setting the secondary. Golding can help with that. It’s called a “team effort “ for a reason. Trust the process.

We've had a few come through here that, were it not for Saban taking them under his wing, would likely have been in deep trouble...

This. At this point, i'm not sure why anyone would feel differently.

Byrne or Sankey? Not sure it matters, I suspect they'll both defer.

Either Suttles is wrong or the SEC has a rule on assistants. Because the NCAA only has issues on Freeze being a HC not a coordinator

Interesting. I personally don't want Freeze on the field so this is some what good news to me. I hope if he comes to Bama its only as an analyst.
It is a tough thing to consider. On one hand Freeze is probably one of the better offensive minds available. On the other hand, we are traumatized by the NCAA and would probably sacrifice just about anything to the NCAA gods to keep them away. Saban doesn't seem to share that concern though, but I understand why others do. It wouldn't be the first time that Saban made a high risk move though.

If it is Freeze, I will just try not to worry about it and consider what he'll do with all those weapons on offense.

Character matters to some, to others it means little or nothing. Call it sanctimonious if it makes you feel better.

It is sanctimonious and judgmental. How many here personally know Freeze and what is in his heart? Zero. However, Coach Saban does know him personally and is friends with him. So I guess you better discuss character with him. smh

For me its not really the NCAA stuff. 1st if anyone is sanctimonious it's Hugh Freeze and his "I'm so persecuted" nonsense. 2nd I don't know what he did in his HS days but the allegations that he was a creep give me pause. Do I know for sure that Hugh Freeze did anything sketchy? No. But I rather not risk having him at Bama. I'm sure there are plenty of qualified people out there.

I'm not judging him, but you do realize that he was caught red handed, right? These are not allegations - he cheated on his wife with paid escorts.
