Just seen were Steve Sloan has died at 79 RIP
In 64 it was clear he was not Joe Wily against Texas but in 65 he was absolutely Mr. Clutch but always had that kid named Stabler who was something special.73294134007
Did not see this posted anywhere. Steve was a favorite of Coach Bryant's. I knew Steve personally and you could not find a nicer guy. Rest In Peace.
Now I understand, I've always known the name but not the guy. Westide has a few years even on me. This puts it in the proper time perspective. Was one of my favorite Bama players when I was young. He was the QB the first time I saw Bama play when they beat Ole Miss 12-7 in a bowl game in 1963.
His DC at Vandy and Texas Tech was Bill Parcells.Sloan had a winning record during his time at Vandy. And shared the SWC championship with UH in 1976.
He was fired at Duke after the 1986 season (Spurrier took his place). He was hired here as AD. I remember seeing him and Curry at the press conference together so I don’t think he had anything to do with Curry’s hiring. He was AD 1986-89. So he was only here during Curry’s tenure. I do not know why he left here. Was he the one who hired Bill Curry when he was AD?
Ok so it must have been Joab Thomas, the university president, who hired Curry then.He was fired at Duke after the 1986 season (Spurrier took his place). He was hired here as AD. I remember seeing him and Curry at the press conference together so I don’t think he had anything to do with Curry’s hiring. He was AD 1986-89. So he was only here during Curry’s tenure. Correct, Thomas was the culprit.Ok so it must have been Joab Thomas, the university president, who hired Curry then.
