" Bill O’Brien’s two-year run as Alabama’s offensive coordinator has come to an end. "

As a reminder, Jess has put together a list of DC & OC candidates ...

I'm hoping this helps us to return to an offensive philosophy that makes sense and is highly productive. In the case of BoB the gaudy stats don't really tell the whole story (IMHO). I'm also hoping this isn't a case of "you got what you asked for" where we got what we asked for and it ended up being worse than what we had!

I expect, now that Bill O’Brien has officially moved on, CNS will move pretty quickly on this. Would be surprised if he has some in place within the week.

Cole Cubelic was throwing out a bunch of numbers that are better than the Sark years, but then you watch a game under BOB and something just isn't connecting with the numbers.
My view is that Bryce made plays that were not designed to be made under this system. THAT's a big part of why the stats are gaudy.

This may be a dumb question because I don't know about all the x's and o's, but was it a Bryce thing or a BOB thing that many of the plays were run with 1-2 seconds left on the clock? I know Bryce was allowed to change the plays, etc, but was it because of the plays BOB called that Bryce did that? I imagine it is because of both Bryce and BOB. It was frustrating to watch.

I just hope the next QB and OC doesn't do that! I don't recall that being done so often except the last 2 seasons. It drove me nuts!

Sarkisian didn't have Bryce Young, either.
Exactly. How many times did we witness Bryce making something out of nothing on sheer talent alone? Just looking at the numbers doesn't tell us anything. Actually watching this offense break down two seconds after the snap on a regular basis and Bryce nevertheless doing something amazing has been a regular theme the last two years.

The inflating of "Bill O'Brien was better than Sarkisian" reminds me of all the "Lane Kiffin is awesome" stats quoters in 2016. "Oh, he has more PPG than McElwain and Nuss!"

Well, Nuss is a pretty damn low bar to hang your reputation on - and Kiffin's offensive PPG stats were inflated by a team that basically averaged one "NOT" per game while Kiffin was causing mental crises for the staff and Jalen Hurts. Not that he wasn't better than the other two, he was. But they built their entire case on "wow, look at these numbers" and failed to do micro-analytics to realize...he didn't really score substantially more than they did.

Remember also - you can pad numbers with big ones in the cupcake games.
WHO CARES?

First-Year Comparison Sark vs BoB (this is 2019 Tua/Mac vs 2021 BoB)

USM - 49 vs 63
Ole Miss - 59 vs 42
aTm - 47 vs 38

Tenn - 35 vs 52
Arky - 48 vs 42
LSU - 41 (in a loss) vs 20 (in a win)

MSU - 38 vs 49
Auburn - 45 vs 24 (in 4 OTs)

Now, I understand there's more to the game than this....but this is a good starting point for any moron who dares suggest "BoB was equal or better to Sark."

Remember this, too: Sark got stuck with TEN CONFERENCE GAMES in 2020 due to Covid, including one game where HE WAS THE HEAD COACH!!!

Second-Year Common Opponents Sark vs BoB Comparison (2020 vs 2022)
Arky 52 vs 49
aTm 52 vs 24

Tenn 48 vs 49
MSU 41 vs 30
LSU 55 vs 31 (OT)
Ole Miss 63 vs 30

Auburn 42 vs 49

Again, I know there's more than goes into it. After all, LSU was awful in 20 and average to pretty good in 22. Still, it's about as accurate as "these numbers show BoB was better than Sark."
