I was thinking about when “my give a damn got busted” with the NFL earlier this week. As a kid in the 1960’s and 1970’s, I loved pro football. I was a huge Oakland Raiders fan. I could tell you almost every player at every position. Why? Because, for the most part (with the exception of college players coming in from the draft) the rosters didn’t change that much. Yeah, the occasional trade also happen, but year to year you could depend on the players that you loved to “be there”. It wasn’t unusual for a player to spend their entire career with a single team.

As free agency developed in the 1980’s, and players became more transient, my interest began to wane. Today, I rarely watch. And if I do, it is only in passing. It isn’t “must see viewing” for me.

On the other hand, Alabama football has always been that “must watch”. I always scheduled my Saturday around it. But now, I get the sense my engagement may be moving to one similar to the NFL. My biggest enjoyment as a fan was a kid coming in and, over the course of three of four years, watch him blossom. It is now kind of hard to do if they are gone after a year or two.

My sentiment, as well. I actually liked the NFL better back then because the players stayed on the teams longer. It took time to build dynasties in both pro and college, and instead of parity, you became a winner by building a team. Parity brought on by sanctioning bodies, imo, create an inferior product. The transfer portal has achieved the same results in college football and it’s not improving the sport at all. The one plus is the NFL having to develop drafted players more than in the past, which is poetic justice considering the NFL got all of the benefits from the college system over the years.

Was he the one that got so angry in the Auburn game after the "brawl?" Seems like he was still doing stuff after the game but I could be wrong about the player.

Yeah, he was out there alot................could mean some transfers that are capable or so forth

So, anyone have any good intel on who Bama might end up with? I know they are scouring the portal pretty hard......

as for Smith, I wouldn't be shocked if he got an offer from someone

Smith’s departure is a head scratcher for sure, but it’s to the point (and will always be going forward) if you ain’t riding with the tide, go on bout your business.

But on another note dis anyone read where Marshall has to drop out a bowl game because 30+ players jumped in the portal to follow Huff who just got hired at Southern Miss.

Law was not supposed to transfer unless Milroe came back. I still don't think Milroe comes back but I am interested as to what changed with Law.

While he was a starter, he's been behind Ryan and Germie. Maybe he wants more touches than that, for the benefit of NFL scouts.

Same. I like that kid as a player. I thought he would fill an important role next season.

Surprising yes but It's possible Red Morgan would have taken his spot if he hadn't gotten banged up. I'm not saying that is the case, I'm saying that could be one plausible explanation.

I hope Bond is miserable and transfers again. These guys gotta stop chasing money so early in life. Work on your craft, the money will come.

I agree. He will be flat broke and out of football in five years and I will be loving it.
