Agreed. We got the ball back with like 6min left, and ran the clock out on ourselves, at home, before reaching midfield. It was a deliberate gamble that I did not agree with. Why force yourself to rely on one single 85yd drive.
Not specifically speaking to you alone, but since several have said they thought we "slow played the clock," I'm not certain that was the plan.
What I think happened on that last drive was what happened on every other drive in the game. We are simply not built to be a "strike quick" offense. I can't remember many drives this year that we scored quickly (against decent defences).
And even if we had a very reliable field goal kicker, most OCs know a TD is always better than a FG and Grubb surely understood the struggles of Talty.
All I'm saying is our offense the whole game needed 3 downs to convert 1st downs and the last drive was no different. Yes, Grubb might have called a few extra runs because of the 2 deep safeties, but some of those runs produced decent runs that were just as productive as most of our passing plays.
I think all of us are underemphasizing that, despite dominating the total yardage stat, OU is an opportunistic defense that allows you to move the ball but is harder to score on, regardless.
What I meant was Greg goes out of his way to come off as objective to a ridiculous degree.
He can be as obnoxious as Gary Danielson at times because of it.
Mark does not care if he comes off as biased one bit.
He goes out of his way to heap praise all over Bama teams and players to also an almost comical degree.
So for HIM to actually make that comment on social media tells you just how disgusted he was with that type of play vs OU because it was honestly just a putrid performance by anyone not associated with the Defense.
The difference is Mark's media presence is more like Corso, Saban, McAfee, etc., who are allowed to be homers if they so choose. Greg calls games and, like Herbstreit, has to strive for better balance. So I don't think it's apples to apples.
Ryan should have made the catch on the last play it was a tough play but it’s something a 5 star standout should be able to make. The other problem is he cut his route just short of the sticks and if he caught it he wouldn’t have got the 1st down.
I disagree. Not only did the OU DB deflect the ball, but even if RW catches the ball, it would have been short of the line to gain.
I think this pass was one of several that Ty was inaccurate on. RW had the separation from the defender toward the sideline, and if Ty puts the ball to his outside shoulder and higher RW has an easy reception opportunity. He basically underthrew it 3-4 yards at least.
Williams is greatly underperforming for what hes getting paid. Hes got a lot of work to do this offseason.
I just defended him in my previous comment, but now to be fair, you and others who are saying this are 100% correct. I'm not even sure what his NIL is but I've heard 1 mill, but he's not justifying it. He still is catching the ball against his chest rather than with his hands. And he's shy of contact after the catch. He's playing scared since his concussion.
I’m worried that this is necessary to keep these guys focused on football.
I’m worried this will be the new normal.
I think it is also because Grubb knows we struggle to make the basic 3rd and short conversions. He's having to work around on OL that isn't reliable to help our RBs gain those basic runs.
