Bama red cowboy hats

:BigA: Does anybody remember the red cowboy hats that a lot of the Bama fans wore back in the 70's. Most people would stick old ticket stubs in the hat band and pin buttons to side of the hat. I wore mine until it literally wore out. rtr. P. S. This is not meant to be a new "hat" thread.:biggrin:

I remember them. Don't know why they caught on but just about everybody had one.

A friend of mine had gotten a GTO for his birthday and we were driving up to Bham from TTown on a Friday before game day. An Alabama State Trooper came up behind us, (we were speeding), then pulled up next to us and showed us his hat, waved and drove on. He must of seen our hats in the back window.

I see an older man out walking in the neighborhood near mine who wears one. His has the white "A" on the front.

Is this one of the hats you're talking about? It use to belong to my dad and I'm pretty sure he had it before I was born in 1982.

Yes, that is one of the cowboy hats that I was talking about. It's in the same shape that mine was. Somebody should bring them back. They would make a fortune.

My parents bought me mine the day we drove to Atlanta for the Bama - Tech game that Tech won. Despite the inauspicious start my hat stuck it out until the late 80's when the weight of all the pins made seeing a game impossible. When I decorated mine I actually put pins of opponents in mine. But only if Bama beat them. Kind of a haberdashery meat pole if you will.

Red Bama cowboy hats would look good in Dallas come Labor Day weekend. You will probably be able to buy one at Jerry World for -- I don't know, $150? :smile:

Hey Riverview, I was out walking the riverbank a few years ago and found another style old Bama hat. It's a red plaid baseball cap with the Bama logo on the front. It's the only one like it I've ever seen...I'm assuming it was from the Wimp Sanderson days when he had the Plaid Palace rocking.

I still have it.

I've never seen these hats, but I do remember my father having a White Alabama Cowboy hat. He would stick the ticket stubs under the strap that went around the base. Here is a picture of him sporting it sometime in the late 70's.
