Bama vs. Indy in the Rose Bowl - Jan. 1

I like the confidence in the posts on this thread. Wish I felt the same way. I remain hung up on our OL's inability to protect Ty or open holes for the RBs. I just hope the Bama OC will provide the extra protection to allow Ty to have time to see the field.
That raises a question. Yesterday during the Miami-TAMU game there was a play with Miami on offense and the broadcaster said Miami was in "Max protect" formation. I think I understand the concept of having more blockers to give the QB more time but do we run "Max protect" a lot or very little? I'm not an "X"'s and "O" s person so I can't explain what blocking schemes are being executed at any given moment but it would seem it might be needed if our OL can't protect using regular blocking schemes.

They're a very good team and I'm not surprised they are favored by a TD. They have a good QB. Some solid WRs. They can rush the passer well. They had 5 sacks vs Ohio State and 6 vs Oregon. Their schedule is uneven but they had good wins vs Oregon and Ohio State and absolutely dominated some decent teams like Illinois. Allowed 2nd fewest ppg

We did manage to beat Kyler Murray and Jayden Daniels so it's not impossible, but we've lost more than won. We'll have to try and win a shootout with IU. I think they'll score 30+ so we need a big game from Simpson, perhaps his best of the year.
We also beat Pat Sullivan and Vinny Testaverde.

The dirty secret of college football this year, and for the foreseeable future IMO, is there are no truly impressive teams. Fans of IU and Ohio State are whistling past the graveyard. NIL/Portal has ruined that part of the game.

So with that said, we absolutely have a great chance to win this game. IU has not played a tough schedule at all. They struggled with Penn State (who is more talented than their record but still). It is impressive they won in Eugene, I’ll give them that. But I think a story from last night is that Oregon isn’t great.

There is no 2020 Alabama. No 2019 LSU. No 2022 Georgia. No 2001 Miami. You get the point.

Ohio State is the master of the portal. Kind of Iike the Yankees dominated NLB before salary caps...

I don't know about that. Cam Newton, Johnny Manziel, and Joe Burrow beat us. We also lost to a couple of Heisman runner-ups (Deshaun Watson and Trevor Lawrence). And that was in the Saban era when we had better defenses.
I'm hoping Selma can help out here...

What I meant to say, was that QBs don't fair well playing us AFTER they have won it, not before (ie playoffs or bowl games)...

Maybe i am wrong here....

I feel more comfortable with this game than any of our last three. We got the good end of the draw.
I don't know bro, we got a 50/50 shot at best. Indy is the first place seed for a reason and we have had a long tough road to this point. They are fresher, very confident, although relatively untested. Gonna take our A game to get the W. I just hope the team realizes that.

I'm having a hard time getting a feel for Indiana. the did beat Oregon and OSU, but the rest of their games were pretty easy compared to the gauntlet Bama ran through this year.

I think Cignetti is a good coach. But do they have the talent to beat us? IDK. Their QB is good, but how will he do if we get after him?

I believe that if we play well and don't make mistakes, we will come out with a W. But it will be a tough game.

they have distinctive advantage with QB and WR

I am hoping our overall team speed kills them. We have to exploit it for home runs though

They’ve done better than most because yeah… they’ve spent a ton of money on it.

But I don’t think it does anything positive for team cohesiveness and building and I think it shows in quality of play.

Ohio state played a charmin soft schedule and I think that bit them against Indiana, who i believe did not have the level of talent Ohio State does.

Indiana has played the portal game effectively too and I think they hit a home run with Cignetti. Still, they are imminently beatable.

I think it’s right that they are favored. But I also think they are ripe for the picking, if we can take care of the ball and force a couple of turnovers ourselves.

One good thing perhaps is that IU is coming off the win vs. OSU. They might think now that NOBODY can beat them. While it's good to be confident a game like that can lead to being overconfident. They probably think we're not as good as the team they beat (and maybe we're not) but that could mean they'd actually take us lightly which is a big mistake.
