There are facets of the offense, outside of anything to do with Milroe/Simpson, that are demonstrably worse this year than last.I also just wonder if Grubb wasn't the upgrade we thought he'd be.

I really think Deboer needs to be more involved. I haven't dived into this but it seems our offense looks its best after bye weeks for the most part. And I wonder if Deboer is more involved in the game planning at those times. There are facets of the offense, outside of anything to do with Milroe/Simpson, that are demonstrably worse this year than last.

That said we laid an egg vs FSU and Michigan in the bowl game last year so maybe I'm wrong.
Regardless, he has to own it and make some changes on offense. Idc what they are.
Hey….Ive been following the Tide since Stabler, and would love to be wrong, but those predicting a long run in the playoffs must be watching something different than me.
I think a lot of the optimism stems from the fact that they scored 10 off of turnovers and the offense was able to move the ball. I swear it looks to me ,though , that the offense has regressed. With no running game…..at all….. I just can’t see it. The offense squanders this D, which I personally think that when healthy ( sure wish we could get Overton back from whatever mysterious “ illness “ he has ) is good enough and playing well enough to go fairly deep in the playoffs. Why are so many confident Alabama can beat Oklahoma? What about the match up favors Alabama? Not being an Eeyore, I'm genuinely interested in the Xs and Os that make Oklahoma a preferred path for Alabama.
I never understand the hype of the wrs coming into the season and noted back then. Bernard has almost single handily won games though so he is the real deal. The others eh. RBs have been a mystery since they were Great high school players. Heck Hanes and young were rated what 1 and 2 out of high school? Think staff changes and just lack of quality coaching has hurt the o line, RBs and WRs. Although you take crimson glasses off and other fans think o line not bad and stuff so reality is probably middle of both world’s.I fully understand the concern over the play calling of Grubb, and sometimes shocking performances ag subpar teams under CKD, however, is it also possible , with out crimson colored glasses , we also greatly overrate our talent.? Every week I watch receivers on other teams make great catches in traffic or with one hand. Ours routinely drop passes thrown to them…great catches …can’t recall many. I really like our #1 Bernard….but is he remotely at the level of Julio, Amari,Ridley, Smitty, Judy, waddle ,Ruggs or Jamo?
How about running backs? Yes, we’ve lost Jam Miller…but cmon….even in best health he’d have been a #3 back on the Saban teams. Brian Robinson waited four yrs to start, and he was better than anyone on this roster.
Obviously the OL is far from championship caliber. Surprisingly our D is solid, but again, no high draft picks there, at least among the upper classmen. The great DTs, linebackers and DBs…..do we still have them?
Again, I’m very disappointed in Grubb and CKD, but I think it’s also a talent and development issue. (Plenty of 5 stars not becoming stars in college).

So what’s going on here? Ty should have hit the back? Is all the changing of plays confusing the offense?
Brailsford is running around looking lost is what he's doing. Everyone else seemed to have got the adjustment.
One could make the argument that uga is more talented than we are but not, say, the sooners. Can't really compare the Nick years to college football today because NIL and the portal has really redistributed the talent pool. Our fortunes on the gridiron have waned as the season went on due to the difficulty of the schedule and the injuries resulting from it...an thing the big 2 or any of the other conferences have no clue about. Now, our game against freeshoes, yea, that is all on the coaches and players for not being prepared. Our loss to OU, that was a result of better coaching by their D. Our loss to the dawgs, they had this coming to us for 1, they could have better talent, we were supremely banged up and Kirby had the blueprint from Venerables to beat us on D. That is the season in a nutshell.I fully understand the concern over the play calling of Grubb, and sometimes shocking performances ag subpar teams under CKD, however, is it also possible , with out crimson colored glasses , we also greatly overrate our talent.? I'm like you, looking for optimism. If we can get some guys healed up and break up the tendencies on the offensive playcalling then we might have a chance. But this will take DeBoer's best coaching effort to date to pull off IMHO.I’m trying to be optimistic for the CFP vs OU, but is Bama's offense capable, at this point, of threatening anyone? Based on what we saw in the SECCG last Saturday, everyone on the field and everyone watching knows we have absolutely no running game because the OL is not on the level required for D1 football. I really hope we can play smart and out-execute OU, but given the state of the team right now, that is a huge task.
If Bama can get more of the wounded in action healthy over the next 10 days and can figure out a way to scheme better considering the OL and running game weaknesses, then we do have a good chance, but scheming and adjusting do not seem to be strong suits of CRG. I've been a Bama fan for 55 years, and I’ll always pull for the Tide, but I’ve never seen a Bama running game this bad. BTW, JessN has an insightful post in another discussion on the drop-off in Bama’s running game from last year to this year—worth the read. Do any of you remember Johnny (“Bull”) Davis? It wasn’t until late in his senior year at fullback in 1977 that he was tackled for a loss while running the ball, and that happened only once! How I miss those great running teams of the 70’s and even from earlier in CNS’s tenure at Bama. Anything’s possible—and now Bama has a shot—so I hope they can produce.
Playoff game I think you mean?
Where did that list come from, and did you mean to say the OU game not the SEC championship game because Cuevas, Miller & Overton were most definitely out that game.

and yet somehow, he won't be credited with a pressure or QB hit allowed. He blocked his own RG and let two guys through.
